PERSISTENT EYE INFECTION/STYE

I’m not sure if I am on the right section for this but I’d be so grateful for advice please.
I got an eye in infection with a stye 3 months ago – evidently it was caused by blepharitis. I am 68. I got antibiotics and it went – but not completely. Now it’s back with a vengeance. My left eye is worse - so puffy and swollen, it’s actually discharging pus. It hurts and I can hardly keep it open. I actually saw a doctor yesterday and I am on antibiotics again.
Over the last 3 months, since the initial infection I have been bathing my eyes with warm compresses – DONE everything you are meant to do with blepharitis. I have used baby shampoo to cleanse but that really made my eyes sting so I now use hot water and salt. I have stopped wearing eye make up. But this infection is not moving.
The thing is that I am not as ‘clean’ as I used to be. When the fuel prices were OK I would bath every day, I can’t afford that now. So am limited to one bath a week. I don’t wash my hair as much either. I can’t have a shower as I am scared I’d slip.
What on earth can I do about this eye infection please? It’s really getting me down.

You need to see an optician or gp. There may be an area which is not draining with hot compresses which can be excised and drained. Your personal hygiene is not the issue.

Are you using boiled water and clean clothes to bathe it? Do you rub your eye with your fingers?

Cloths not clothes!

Do you wear make-up? If so have you replaced your eye make-up since the last infection?

Warm water and salt is a good cleansing solution for your eyes.

Aside - Presumably you're having a flannel/sponge wash with cold water even if not a full bath or shower?

Surely you can manage a sink wash twice a day with a flannel? I mean that kindly, I know things are really difficult.

I would make sure your eyes are well moisturised, as women get older your eyes will become drier - either through lack of oestrogen or due to dry eye issues (sjogrens) and these can make things a lot worse if there are any issues. Try and get some Hycosan red bottle eye drops and use those regularly (you can literally use them every hour, won’t do any harm) and that might help alongside the other things you’ve tried.

they can be brought on by being run down and I believe you are more susceptible with a lack of vitamin C so try taking a supplement to lower your chances. Sorry OP, eye infections are the worst!

Thanks so much people. I think I am run down and I am very stressed, been so for the last year TBH. I'll start to take supplements. I saw GP and optician recently and they advised bathing eyes. I presently have oral penicillin and antibiotic eye drops. I haven't been using make up at all since last infection. I think that as one of the posters said, something needs to be drained in my left eye. Thanks again for your help.
