Help - Samsung 11kg washing machine

washingmachinemadness · 07/04/2023 11:49

Posting for traffic obviously.

Does anyone have a newish Samsung 11kg washing machine and know how to make the bloody thing wash in less than 4 hours?! We only got the thing yesterday and I'm already ready to send it back. Even when I chose a cycle that said 1.5 hours it 'sensed the load' and change to 4 hours after starting it. It's a series 5+ WW11BB504DAW if that makes any difference.

(Also don't want to run lots of quick washes at 2kg as it completely undoes the point of having an 11kg machine).

Alternatively can anyone suggest a machine that actually, you know, washes clothes rather than holding them hostage for half a day??

The idea with these ‘sensor’ machines is that they sense the load and have a wash cycle suitable - a short cycle on a large load is always going to do a relatively poor job.

You might be best with a ‘dumb’ washing machine if you disagree with how they work - but as it’s been connected and used you’d probably have to sell it second-hand.

I’ve always avoided fancy machines as I can’t be bothered with a computer telling me it knows better than I do 😅

I couldn't agree more, but I've really struggled finding anything dumb with shorter wash cycles either

Mine is a series 6, have to say I love it. Checking I'm understanding the issue - you're setting a shorter wash but it's extending the time once you start?

I typically pick the 40 degree colours then you can adjust the length of cycle (five or so options). I usually go for 1 hour 15 to 30 and haven't noticed much auto-extending beyond that. I have found this on the hotter settings for laundry and towels. I also don't use the eco option (sorry) as it takes forever.

Just in comparison, my old dead Bosch was 8kg and could do a proper wash not a quick cycle in 1.5 hours.

I don't have colours as an option, only eco 40-60, cotton (that 'sensed load' up to 4), 15 min quick wash for 2kg, intense cold, synthetics, delicates & towels.

All 3+ hours except synthetic which only spins at 1200 and is still nearly 3 hours.

We've just bought the same model and your description of holding the clothes hostage for half a day is exactly right.
I'm sure I properly read all the spec before ordering and I'm sure I checked that there were quicker wash cycles. But now I have the machine it doesn't seem to be working out that way.
I'm quite pissed off because it wasn't cheap and now I'm stuck with it.
I'll need to read the manual a bit more or start weighing out my dirty clothes.

User505351 · 07/04/2023 12:03

I also find the quicker washes don't spin so much so the clothes are wetter and take longer to dry

Feeling exactly the same! Very fed up after trawling through so many hard to find manuals as the information isn't available up front, I'd also understand there were quicker loads that could still a decent spin and wash even if a bit less eco.

Mine is a 10kg ecobubble model.

Does yours have a Super Speed? This doesn't sense the load on mine. I play around with the temp/ spin/ rinses to suit. Sometimes if the wash only has a slower spin that won't increase, it's even faster to do a hold at the end (zero spin), and do a Drain/ Spin after as a separate wash.

My Auto Optimal tends to not adjust much, but Cotton is a pain if doing a large load of towels. I only use it if I'm doing a load with lighter items.

dementedpixie · 07/04/2023 12:31

I have an older Samsung ecobubble machine and it has a Daily Wash cycle that you can add rinse cycles to and starts at just over 1 hour. I dont use the Eco cycle as its super long. The cotton cycle is about 3h unless you increase the temperature to 60⁰C and then it reduces to just over 2h

Same issue here with a large capacity machine, albeit different manufacturer. It’s forced me to completely change how I do laundry - I now set it to come on at 4am to be ready to dry the next morning. It’s irritating, but I think all washing machines are going that way. My previous machine, which was Samsung, was similar.

I can see why - manufacturers are under pressure to reduce the water and energy use of their machines but if you let people choose they inevitably choose shorter and less eco cycles. Much like banning free plastic bags, reducing wattage of appliances, the proposed ban on power showers - sometimes for the greater good people have to be forced to accept minor inconveniences.

Glassfullofdreams · 07/04/2023 12:46

Hi, have a relatively new Samsung washing machine - everything goes in on the Turbo59 setting - it takes 59 minutes.

rwalker · 07/04/2023 12:50

We used to use fast cycles (1 hr 40) after a few washes uniform gym stuff and towels smell

now use delay start so it’s ready when you get up
just means being bit more organised but find it great now
fill it up at night just on final spin when we get up

TroysMammy · 07/04/2023 13:19

I bought a Samsung 9kg eco bubble from Samsing and 3 washes in the rubber seal started to disintegrate so I contacted them. What a palaver trying to firstly get through to the right department. Their customer service is shit. They delivered my first washing machine in 2 days and could pick up the faulty machine in 2 days but couldn't give me a replacement for 7-10 days but I could buy another to be delivered in 2 days but would have a refund of the first one in 7-10 days. I didn't proceed with a replacement. They refunded me minus the installation fee. Fuckers.

If it was so frustrating at this point what would their aftercare in the future be with their extended warranty?

I bought a Hoover through AO and I'm pleased with it.

anonymouschef · 07/04/2023 13:19

Bottom right of the wheel rinse and spin and top left quick wash options and take off bubble soak and pre wash and adjust the rinses too xxx

GrouchyKiwi · 07/04/2023 13:31

Mine does this occasionally and I think it's because I've put a bit too much detergent in the drawer.

I use the Cotton setting, put it on 20C for colours and 30C for lights, add an extra little bit of soaking time (I think that's the second option, anyway), and that takes 1:37. But every now and then, even though I've put in the same amount of clothing, it decides to take 4 hours. So the detergent thing is my current theory.

BertieBotts · 07/04/2023 13:50

I really don't mind the long cycles, I just stick them on when it doesn't matter when it finishes. I don't have to cram all my washing into one day so it doesn't really matter how long it takes most of the time.

But the ability for it to do a faster wash using more water/power when needed is also essential IMO. Sometimes you do need to rush something through or have multiple loads to push through on one day.

I would check in the manual as it might have instructions in there. Do check the stated capacity of shorter washes - I know mine (not Samsung) for example, if I do the super short 30 min quick wash, then it's only supposed to take 3kg worth of clothes which is half a normal wash. However I can shorten the normal wash down to about 1h05 which then actually takes 90 mins, which is fine. 90 minutes is a reasonably quick wash for a full load IMO.

Vicky137 · 19/11/2023 11:53

I have the same machine. I feel completely missold. A bedding cycle that has a maximum weight of 2kg! 👀 Out of the two cycles that actual use the 11kg capacity there’s only one that as a customisable temperature. What temperature is 40-60 degrees!? 🤷‍♀️
I also noticed that none of the weights are given in the ‘simple’ manual that came with it.
I really wish I’d located the full manual and read it before purchasing. I would never have bought it.

happyandhopefull · 19/11/2023 12:00

The time suggested is usually for a set weight, so if you put a large load in it will take longer. My Samsung has quick washes but only for very small loads. It's frustrating, but I use the Eco wash which takes 2 1/2 hours and at least think I'm saving money. Could you plan ahead and set the timer so it may take time but be ready when you need it?

Vicky137 · 19/11/2023 14:10

I only ever washed clothes at 20degrees in my old machine so I can’t imagine the eco cycle actually being economical. I suppose it might be better for those with water meters.

Interesting re the "eco 40-60" programme. It varies wildly between machines.

My Hisense carries out an initial load sensing phase prior to adding water to the drum - the temperature for "eco 40-60" varies depending on the weight of the load. It never goes above 32 degrees Celsius though. Also it only does 1 rinse!

Plus, for 8kg, it takes 03h26m. I'm not doing that for just 1 rinse. Nonsense.
