Dinosaur here. So if I really want to watch a film but it's not on Netflix or Disney plus and I don't have it on DVD (yes I still have them) how do I watch it? Where do I download it from? I can buy it on YouTube I think. If I buy it on YouTube is it "mine" forever? I need to go back to 1992 🤔 help out an idiot please?

I'm no help. Unless it is on Film 4 I'd just buy the DVD.

DustyLee123 · 07/04/2023 08:11

I watch them on Sky. They are either free or around £2.
Do you have free Amazon delivery ?

GetOffYourPhone · 07/04/2023 08:12

Have you a smart tv?

What kind of TV do you have?
You can also buy films on Amazon prime video.

TomHanksIsFuckingAmazing · 07/04/2023 08:15

The only sky I know is that blue thing in the air 😄 not paying for that. I have a smart TV with Netflix etc but it was too out of date to have Disney plus on even though it's only two years old. I have to use the app on my phone. No issues with watching films on my phone in fact I prefer it because I can blast the volume with earphones. Don't have amazon

There’s nothing wrong with DVD’s, at least you own them forever.

GetOffYourPhone · 07/04/2023 08:17

Sorry, I see you have Netflix etc. so you have a smart TV. It’s like any other online purchase then. You can buy the film or rent it, depending on the company. I would recommend the app/website JustWatch as you can search for where a film is available and see where’s cheapest to rent or buy from. If you can get the Google Play/Youtube etc app on your TV, you should be able to just purchase/rent and watch. You can also cast from your phone to the Tv.

yogaretreat · 07/04/2023 08:17

Can't you just get amazon to watch the movie you want?

SertralineAndTherapy · 07/04/2023 08:18

You don't have to have Amazon Prime to buy one-off films! Just go to Amazon, search for it, and buy (or rent if available), you can watch it on any web browser (no need for the app either). Don't be put off by the "Amazon Prime" branding on everything.

SertralineAndTherapy · 07/04/2023 08:19

And film fans still like DVDs for all the extras which you don't tend to get online!

JumpToRecipe · 07/04/2023 08:20

What apps do you have on your smart TV? Are you sure you can’t have Disney+? What make is it?

Phoebo · 07/04/2023 08:21

You can buy them off google, if you have a smart TV you can download the app

Phoebo · 07/04/2023 08:21

Actually I think alot of platforms you can do this and don't need a monthly subscription

KitKatLove · 07/04/2023 08:22

You can get a fire stick so you can get Disney, Apple, paramount etc. doesn’t need to be amazon we have a Roku which is just the same. The website will tell you the available apps on the stick.

Ostryga · 07/04/2023 08:24

So you can buy/rent from quite a few places. Best thing to do is google the film you want and see which platforms have it to rent/buy. Go into the app on your tv (Amazon or YouTube or similar) and search for it. You then will be promoted to either put card details in or set up a payment on the app on your phone which when you’re logged into with the same details on your phone and tv it will link automatically.

On Amazon prime for example you can buy the film on your phone and as long as you’re logged into your Amazon account on your tv it will be in your saved films when you want to watch it.

Roku 3930EU Express | HD Streaming Media Player,Black https://amzn.eu/d/edpTAvr

only £20

TomHanksIsFuckingAmazing · 07/04/2023 08:26

Okay so I've just downloaded Google play onto my phone. If I rent or buy a film does it just sit in the app and I can watch it whenever? Does it take up loads of space on my phone? Again would rather watch films on my phone anyway...

Disney+ has been going since 2019. How can a two-year-old telly be too out of date to have the app?

yogaretreat · 07/04/2023 08:29

It only takes up memory if you have it downloaded, so you can watch it without Internet. Otherwise it doesn't.

JumpToRecipe · 07/04/2023 08:30

Oh, you want to watch them on your phone? OK. Yes, if you buy it it will be yours to watch whenever. You can also rent films which is usually a bit cheaper and you generally have 24-48 hours from the point you start watching, just like Blockbuster. It will only take up space on your phone if you download the whole film for offline viewing (eg if you were going on a plane). Otherwise it will stream and take up minimal storage.

I would seriously suggest you get a monitor or something, maybe a laptop? Watching movies on your phone will be terrible for your eyes! I don't think it will take up space on your phone as I think you stream it, but I'm not totally sure

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 07/04/2023 08:35

We have a so called Panasonic "smart " tv and it's rubbish. Came with a handful of apps but doesn't allow us to add anything extra like Disney or Apple. Meaning we had to get a fire stick.

The tv control is rubbish too, seems to have an annoying 2 second delay meaning you think you've pressed something, nothing initially happens so you press again but in the meantime it catches up Confused much swearing ensues

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 07/04/2023 08:36

Ours is only 4 years old too!
