Teeth cracking and breaking away

Mom23Bee · 06/04/2023 21:59

The past few months a few of my molars have cracked and broke away. Since having my children over the past 9 years my gums bleed every time I brush, and if I'm honest I either forget to floss/ am rushing around too much to do it. I don't get pain as such from my teeth but I'm worried they're decaying or that I have gum disease.
I have booked into the dentist but I've got to wait a couple months for my appointment, does anybody know how I can prevent this? Or if anything works to stop the bleeding/ breaking?
Thanks.

You need to see a dentist ASAP , if you can pay private and see them sooner then get booked in.
You need to brush for 2 minutes twice a day and floss. Reduce sugar intake. Mouthwash a few times a day with a good mouthwash such as cordysol. Take a good multivitamin and high dose vitamin D.
When did you last see a dentist?

I had a spell of my teeth crumbling away. I was visiting the dentist every 7 months for something, it was awful. After a few years I had a blood test for something else and my Vit D was very low. Since taking it my teeth have stopped breaking so easily (although still bad in comparison to other people). Worth a try?

(Vit D and calcium absorption are linked )

@swirly456 I'll be honest, I've been about 18 months since I went for my last check up, it was rushed because my son was screaming the whole time 😫 I don't get much time to sort myself out if I'm honest.
I've got to start taking care of myself I just don't know where to start!

@Pixiedust1234 my last blood test showed my foliate levels were low and I was borderline diabetic. I'm wondering if that could be taking effect? 🤔

Maybe. Your other levels could be borderline too (NHS don't like to do optimum, only fine or not fine). Worth trying Vit D with calcium for a few months and see it it helps.

Vitamins and minerals will not help your teeth now you are an adult. They may help your gums and general wellness but there's no mechanism by which you can ingest something now and it affect the health of your teeth.

A dentist will be able to advise on whether it's related to acid erosion or something like clenching and grinding.

Redebs · 06/04/2023 22:17

Mine have broken a lot recently, but there aren't any NHS dentists taking on patients.
Quite scary to be in this situation.

Mom23Bee · 06/04/2023 22:23

@Redebs I found this too. When I asked for an appointment at my dentist I have to wait until the end of May or go private. Unfortunately, I can't afford that option. I know I don't look after myself as well as I should, but with young children I know a lot of mom's relate.
Luckily my teeth haven't broken under the gum line they have cracked above but I still don't want to have broken teeth 😫

Get your thyroid levels checked, I end up with teeth problems every time mine dip, it's actually now my prompt to get my levels checked

Do you grind your teeth in your sleep? ( Bruxism). I do and wear a gum shield at night. I haven't always worn it regularly.and two large sections of my back molars have broken off as a result.

Mom23Bee · 06/04/2023 22:33

@thatsn0tmyname I'm not sure if I grind my teeth in the night, but I've noticed I do it a lot in the day. I think there could be a few factors into why this could be happening...

Dry brush your teeth and gums with bicarbonate of soda once a day for a week. This is good for gum disease.

AnnaMagnani · 06/04/2023 22:38

Religiously brushing and flossing will help but it might be that until your dentist has descaled your teeth the bleeding won't completely resolve - but it will be loads better!

Any chance you grind your teeth given the cracking?

babynoname22 · 06/04/2023 22:46

Since being pregnant and having children my teeth are dreadful and very weak. I know have prescription fluoride toothpaste from the dentist to try and help

Cut out anything that keeps your mouth acidic. Mine was squash. I drink a fair amount of sugar free squash. I was thinking it was fine because it's sugar free but the citrus acid and acid regulator in it was keeping my mouth acidic eroding my teeth. I know drink water and squash with meals and brush three times a day
