Will I regret buying a Monsoon/Asos wedding dress?

Do they only look lovely because they're modelled on 6 foot size 0 models anyway? Will altering it ruin it?

This is mine, it is just what I was after. I'm plus size and didn't fancy going round the bridal shops so ordered lots online and this was my fav by a long way www.thandth.com/gowns/aurora-in-ivory

The other option is to look at rental? My sister in law did that and it worked out brilliantly.

I had a charity shop ASOS wedding dress and no regrets. I’m not v tall (or slim) so had it taken up an inch or two. I wanted something fun and relaxed and didn’t want to spend loads on something I’d only wear once.

Mine was from Monsoon and I loved it. Was about £200 and I have no regrets at all. (This was 7 years ago though)

That’s a lovely elegant dress.

Mine was from Monsoon but it wasn't a wedding dress just an evening dress - strapless, dark turquoise background and purple abstract flowery design all over. It was £150 and I bloody loved it. The only dress I've ever worn in the last 40 years. If I could zip it up I'd parade around in it whenever no one was looking, but sadly I'm a size too big now!

Mine was Monsoon, absolutely loved it. Was £100 in the sale then spent about £80 getting small alterations. I definitely would have regretted spending £££ especially now I'm getting divorced haha.

Depending on what it is that puts you off about traditional wedding dress shopping, Web2B may be an option?
Their dresses are cheaper than most bridal gowns, although more expensive than Monsoon, and the trying on process isn't anywhere near as intense!

My friend bought her dress from Monsoon and I’m sure she did a “click and collect” of several styles and sizes to the store (because they have many in stock) and then tried them all on in the shop so she could compare them and pick the best fit etc.

I do love Monsoon wedding dresses but I am a bit worried that they look better on tall skinny brides not someone with big boobs and a bit of a tummy. I love the boho style and think you would enjoy your day more in something you can move in. Bridal shop dresses are so heavy.

The price is a big thing and you can avoid the stress of going to a wedding boutique. I know some brides want that experience but I found the pressure difficult.

The ladies who have shared their wedding dresses must have looked stunning as they were very beautiful dresses.

I bought a second hand dress off ebay for £79. Got a small alteration made. Wouldn't have changed it for the world. It wasn't white and I have been able to wear it Once since. Be true to yourself and believe in what you want. Don't let anyone try to sway you.

I fell in love with a Phase Eight wedding dress, but thought I would regret not going to a 'proper' wedding shop, and so convinced myself I needed the whole dress experience. I liked my wedding dress, but they messed up the alterations (seamstress at the shop), and so it never fit perfectly, and I didn't actually enjoy wedding dress shopping in the end! Wish I had stuck to the Phase Eight one!!

I had a Debenhams off the peg dress (15 years ago) and no regrets. I don't think it needed much adjusting. I was careful about buying suitable underwear, trying it on for mum a d bridesmaids advice etc. The only time I had a doubt was when, in between buying it and the wedding, I saw a photo of a character in a soap in the same one! But I got past that and no one apart from me noticed at the time as far as I know.

It was a small wedding and when I tried got at 'proper' wedding dress shops I felt like it was fancy dress if you see what I mean, just not me. I was determined not to have a train , corset, veil, anything that would make me uncomfortable or need help going to the toilet, and the staff in wedding dress shops just couldn't seem to accept that! I just wanted to put on a dress I looked slightly prettier than normal in!

Simplelobsterhat · 05/04/2023 23:15

Actually, thinking about the alterations, both times I've been bridesmaid the dresses have been high st off the peg (coast one time, can't remember the other but possibly Debenhams) and both times have needed altering but the alterations were no problem so no reason a wedding dress should be any different just because it's white / ivory! (If it is).
