ID for flying to Scotland

TwittleBee · 05/04/2023 10:38

Can kids fly without any ID to Scotland? Us adults have our driving licences but the kids haven't anything besides their birth certificates.

I have Googled but I'd like to hear from people who have done it recently please.

Also any recommendations on what to do with 6 and 3 year olds in Scotland very much appreciated.

Where are you flying from? Which part of Scotland are you visiting?

Whataretheodds · 05/04/2023 10:42

It will depend on the airline.

Scotland is a whole country. We cant recommend attractions in the islands if you're going to be staying in the borders?

emmathedilemma · 05/04/2023 10:54

You need to check with your airline as some have different rules depending on if you've got hold bags etc. I've flown hand luggage only with some airlines and never had ID checked.

emmathedilemma · 05/04/2023 10:54

^^ that's assuming it's a domestic flight within the UK!

Flora56 · 05/04/2023 10:57

You’ll need to be specific about your location. The Glasgow science museum is great, but not so handy if you’re spending a week in Aberdeen.

Amispringy · 05/04/2023 11:24

Wheee are you flying from?

If it's Australia then the requirements will be very different from Canada

You're in for a treat when you get here though. Everything in the whole country is within a 15 minute walk. I

LicoriceComfit · 05/04/2023 11:27

Depends on where you are flying from?

LicoriceComfit · 05/04/2023 11:28

And what to do with six year olds and three year olds in Scotland? It’s a fairly big country!

Breathmiller · 05/04/2023 11:42

I presume you are flying internally from somewhere else in the UK.
I googled as I was interested and it seems that children under 16 do not need photographic proof, the adult (with photographic proof) can vouch for them.

If you give us a location then we can help you find attractions.

Glasgow - the transport museum and the ship behind it are fun for young ones.
Science museum (I've not been in years, maybe a little too old?- someone else will be able to advise better)
Edinburgh - Camera Obscura and Dynamic Earth although both might be a little old for your youngest one. The national museum is great for all ages (and free).

TwittleBee · 05/04/2023 13:20

Flying from England, apologies, I didn't make it clear it was a UK internal flight.

I've asked for recommendations for Scotland because we don't know what we want to do there at all. Of course I know it's a whole country, with lots to do. That's why I'm asking for ideas!

Reason we are visiting is our 6 year old has said he wants to go, I've asked him why and he's said he just wants to go there, no details exactly.

So where are you landing?

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 05/04/2023 13:23

But where in Scotland are you going to? Skye is beautiful, but it’s not handy for Edinburgh if that’s where you’re based.

and you will have to check with the airline re: ID

TwittleBee · 05/04/2023 13:25

So does where I'm landing make a difference to ID requirements?

I'm not sure where we will be landing yet as we aren't sure what we want to do.

OP posts:
liveforsummer · 05/04/2023 13:26

It depends on the airline but I've had issues at stansted before when they've insisted my dc needed photo ID to travel when I've been on the way home, having had no issue getting there without it. I think a lot of airlines do require it now tbh. Fair enough that you don't know what you want to do, but you will need to be more specific with an area - or state the activities you're after and someone can suggest one. Otherwise it's like asking for things to do in England with DC. The list is simply too long to put in to writing

TwittleBee · 05/04/2023 13:26

I think I might just drive 😅 can stop off at various places then and not worry about ID

OP posts:
Pencilsaremylife · 05/04/2023 13:26

You must know where you are planning to fly to though, so presumably that will determine which part of Scotland you are staying in.

TwittleBee · 05/04/2023 13:28

@liveforsummer Yeah I think I'll drive!

And I'll just keep Googling for things to do as not having much luck on here.

I guess my brain works differently as I could definitely recommend my favourite places to visit as starting poin

TwittleBee · 05/04/2023 13:28

*starting points in Wales and England

DH does say I'm weird with how I can rattle of my favourite things. It's a bit of an ongoing joke tbf

This is such a classic missing the point unhelpful reply which is so common Mumsnet 🤣🤣🤣👀

The OP hasn’t decided which bit of Scotland to visit yet, obviously. Her kids wanna go so she’s trying to work out where to go to entertain them. It isn’t complicated but feel free to nitpick the OP rather than answering her question if that’s how you get your kicks.

It makes a difference when you're asking for recommendations.

Hi op I plan to go to England what's to do there?

Do you not see that's a bit silly?high level go to Edinburgh or Glasgow for come city stuff then do a bit of the northwest Highlands.

TwittleBee · 05/04/2023 13:33

@Wha I do appreciate your comment but in fairness to them I did my classic thing where I forgot people don't live in my brain and so hadn't given them the full picture. I get called out on it a lot (ADHD for you 😂)

I could too but there is so much variety that there are favourite places for certain activities. I could recommend hiking in the pentlands or climbing a munro for the scenery but not much use if you wanted a seaside holiday or cultural city break. If you specify the type of thing you're looking for people will be able to help. If you don't know yet it's difficult.

DogInATent · 05/04/2023 13:34

Take the train.
