Easter egg hunt

So this year I've decided to do an Easter egg hunt for dds 3 and 4.

I've never done one before due to them being a little young, now they are older I want to do one but no idea where to start.
Do you do it in the garden or in the house?
I've told them we will do one and they are really excited about it.

Could you please give me ideas? Thanks

I did one for DD last year (age 3 and a bit) and just hid coloured eggs with things in them around the garden. She had lots of fun trying to find them. Will do the same this year although we're away so it'll be in the PIL's garden!

Outside if it’s nice weather. Inside if raining. Remind then they need to share out the chocolate at the end so they have equal amounts.

We usually hide most in the garden then hide. Couple in each room in the house .

Buy a bag of mini eggs, brightly coloured is best, and put them in fairly obvious easy to find places. It's much nicer outside if you can

We do it in the house, the kids hide in the bathroom whilst DH and I put the eggs out and then it's a race to get them all, they will share them out if they are too uneven. We still find the odd one months later.

It wasn't a thing when I was little and we only started it as the kids got older as a bit of fun. It started in the house as it was raining the first couple of times and then it became tradition.

I do a mixture of indoors and in the garden. Also make clues that I adjust each year, basic things like "Clue 1: where does DD sleep" and "Clue 2: where does DD bath".
8 clues in total. She loves it.

I lay a trail upstairs to their bedrooms and dot a few round up there. While they are collecting the eggs upstairs, I hot foot it to the garden and put the rest outside, with a trail through the house from the stairs. I always buy far too many but it's fun. Traditional where I live, my kids even prefer it to getting the massive big eggs.

We will do in garden if dry for 3 year old. We hide real coloured hard boiled eggs ( then eat for breakfast), plus little lindt Rabbits.
Last year we kept to smaller area of garden, but he’s a bit older now so
might spread out a bit more.

Outside if the weather is nice. It depends how you want to do it.

We hide hollow chocolate eggs and bunnies, just one DD, but my sister had eggs in 3 colours and her children could only take the one in "their" colour, so blue for DD1, red for DD2, yellow for DD3 and some items where you could only take one each, so one bunny, one Kinder egg etc to ensure everyone got the same things.

Friends do tasks, they hide things and their DCs get a list with things to find and if they get everything they get a bunny and a large egg.

At that age I would make it not too difficult to find them.

If you hide little eggs, count them before you put them out!

Or have a series of clues leading to the next clue and eventually the prize. You can hide a little egg with each clue if you want.

It’s also nice to have little egg-collecting buckets reserved for this - we got ours from Home Bargains and also use the trick or treat ones too. We do ours outside unless it’s raining and it’s everyone’s favourite bit of Easter.

We do the hunt outside and in but only the clues. I bought plastic eggs years ago in different colours (if they see a different coloured egg they have keep quiet) each one filled with a clue, mini Lindt bunny and £1 coin. Usually around 12 clues each, deliberately giving them exercise (eg clue 1 at top of house, clue 2 end of the garden). Always age appropriate - I drew pictures when they were little and now they are more complex logical clues, in Spanish, anagrams or even algebra. They're teens now but still love to do it!

DiscoBeat · 05/04/2023 09:00

(Last clue leads to the whole 'hoard).

Thanks all for your great ideas.
I'm liking the idea with clues leading up to the final prize of all the chocolate eggs.

We do it around the house and I also make a slideshow for our easter egg hunt that has facts about Easter and small hints and clues about where to look for the next egg. The final prizes are bug chocolate eggs/plushies, as PPs said
