I am strangely drawn into the lives of the Crawleys, I’m on series 4! I watch it on my iPad whilst cooking, but I just can’t imagine sitting down every Sunday night and watching a new episode unfold. Nowt happens!!

Only the odd war, death, birth and marriage, not much.

mynewusername2023 · 04/04/2023 21:10

I've watched it all the way through four times since the beginning of 2020. It's the programme that gives me a hug.

I've watched it all the way through four times since the beginning of 2020. It's the programme that gives me a hug.

I think this is how I feel now about it. It’s comforting. I just can’t imagine watching one episode a week and gagging for the next one.

I've watched it through at least 4 times

I Like how the pp says it gives you a hug
That's how I feel

Weirdly I've been craving watching it again
It's comfort TV

Wilma55 · 04/04/2023 21:17

It's good to knit to! Doesn't require too much concentration.

Needhelp101 · 04/04/2023 21:18

One of the few series that actually made me shout at the TV.

But that's probably because nothing had happened for three series before that 😁

It's total comfort TV.

Needhelp101 · 04/04/2023 21:18

Gosford Park is also worth a watch.

PerpetualStudent · 04/04/2023 21:20

I re-watched it through the first lock down - the televisual equivalent of white noise.

HydrangeaHo · 04/04/2023 21:22

I watched it over a period of 2 years. It doesn't lend itself to bingeing IMO. Occasional treat.
I might start it again once I finish Father Brown.

Snooks1971 · 04/04/2023 21:27

@Needhelp101 loved Gosford Park!

I made it to Season 2. When Matthew Crawley's spinal injury miraculously got better I was done.

anxiouslemons · 04/04/2023 21:29

It's my ironing show! Mindless, easy watching.

MarshaMelrose · 04/04/2023 21:32

It's like comfy slippers. You know it's going to come out all right (well, maybe not for Sybil) but it's so restful getting there. And some gorgeous clothes to boot.

Snooks1971 · 04/04/2023 21:32

Everyone saying that it’s comfort TV, yes it so is. It is to me, I just can’t imagine watching it once a week

I started watching it during the pandemic for the first time, it gave me such comfort.

Maybe a spoiler alert

I said to my husband one anxious evening during the start of the pandemic when we had our newborn and other son who was poorly - 'watch an episode with me, you'll like it and it will do you good to not watch the news and the death toll. There's nothing violent or gory, just gentle viewing' and then I pressed play and it happened to be the episode where the Earl of Grantham violently coughs up blood all over the dinner table Blush

Snooks1971 · 04/04/2023 21:35

It is my comfort blanket though!

Why don't you try watching it once a week for one series and then no more and see if it feels differently than you thought. I used to find it wasn't something I couldn't wait to see but as soon as it came on, I wanted to see it to the end.

Talkingtomyhouseplants · 04/04/2023 21:40

Did you not SEE the episode in series one where Karl Pemouk DIES in Lady Mary’s bed?

Twizbe · 04/04/2023 21:43

It's good comfort TV. I watched the whole thing twice during cluster feeds with my 2 kids.

Oh I am a fan, binged it during the pandemic when I got desperate. Expected to despise it but got addicted. Bit in love with Tom. Missed the film somehow.

Rubygrapefruitwithchilli · 04/04/2023 21:48

I’ve watched it three times; I love the costumes and decor. And there are some excellent snippets of dialogue.

The plot deficiencies do become increasingly apparent the more you watch it though … 😄

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 04/04/2023 21:49

Everything is 'sorted' far too quickly and the family are waaaaaaaaaaaaay to liberal and accepting for their social/historical context. BUT I still love it. It made me read up on the Dollar Princesses, but I did not enjoy the 'Guilded Age' though
