Failed first bloody assignment. Gah.

I'm doing a masters part funded by work (they aren't particularly interested in progress etc, just content I'm gaining knowledge in an area we have gaps in).

I've already got a masters in Law which I self funded so I was looking forward to this!

First essay I really enjoyed & thought I'd done ok but failed because I hadn't written enough about two of the learning objectives. I'm annoyed with myself because I kept telling myself "go back and check the objectives" but I think I got distracted by the one I found more interesting and neglected the other two.

I've already redrafted the bits I need to but new module starts next week and I'm embarrassed!!

I've asked for a tutorial but no one else to chat to about this as no one is really interested.

Its a big learning curve when you start a course to get into how things need to be written, style, and all the other bits. No need to be embarrassed, its all par for the course and you've learnt something.
When can you resubmit? The masters I'm doing has set weeks in the year you can resubmit failed assignments and you just get them in then

I really wouldn't panic, you're clearly capable so you just might need to tweak your methods a little for this subject. Also, working and studying is really (really really really) fucking hard, so in future be ruthless with your time and make sure meeting the learning objectives is baked in from the start.

I'm a lecturer and have seen countless students have one bad result and use it to really improve - pay attention to what went wrong and make sure you don't do that again. I suspect you won't anyway, it sounds like you know this.

Make sure you know the exact arrangements for resubmission and then put it out of your head until then. Use your energy to focus on your current assessments that will count for full marks.

@CMOTDibbler yes, it's a really different style (and bloody Harvard referencing). I didn't click with some of the core reading and struggled to get through it without procrastinating!

@JenniferBarkley yes, really good points. I started off ruthless but then allowed things to drift. I will get it all squared in my diary and then stick to it. I have had a think about how to make sure I don't make the same mistake again and have some ideas.

You're only human OP! I wouldn't be prone to doing the same, not at all... <whistles>

I really struggled with the writing style and referencing when I started this MBA - I'm STEM background and working and the social sciences style really threw me. I also find some of the module leaders are clearer about what they want than others in the assignment brief so you have to get your head round that each time too. Also the reading can be variable, and I've found getting into the literature much more satisfying tbh

Thank you both. I'd much rather an exam on a STEM subject! This is an MSc but it's definitely not science at this stage. Will have a tutorial and as you suggested @JenniferBarkley focus on next module where I can score high marks.

Had some nice feedback about my writing etc so not all bad...
