What has happened to these flowers??!

Just got home after a weekend away and found some tulips someone had given me on Friday night in this state.

What do you think has happened to them? DS17 had a party on Saturday evening but is strenuously denying that anything happened to them at the party. They don’t seem to have been snapped or anything like that. Can I resurrect them?

Lemonade?

anythinginapinch · 03/04/2023 20:56

They've run out of water

Whatthediddlyfeck · 03/04/2023 20:56

Put a copper coin in the water-should resurrect them

Anyonebut · 03/04/2023 20:57

I take it they still have enough water. Were they left in the sun or a hot area?

Stripycatz · 03/04/2023 20:57

You could try an aspirin in the water, but Tulips are very dramatic; it may be too late.

Clearly the one at the back has murdered them. Watch your back op.

Mumdiva99 · 03/04/2023 20:58

There is no water.....

tobee · 03/04/2023 20:59

I'd strip off quite a lot of the leaves for a start. And trim the ends

Anjo2011 · 03/04/2023 20:59

They need water !

YouWithoutEnd · 03/04/2023 20:59

Tulips continue growing once they’ve been cut, so they’ve probably got too heavy to support themselves, especially with all the foliage left on.

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 03/04/2023 21:00

They had the heating on full the whole time you were away Flowers

minipie · 03/04/2023 21:00

Some tulips do this, they have been badly bred and the stem is not strong enough to hold the weight of the head. That said, the leaves look a bit sad too so too much warmth/not enough water is also possible

This 🤣🤣🤣

AMomentOfTruth · 03/04/2023 21:00

Pierce the stem just below the flower with a fine pin or needle, and, as others have said, fresh water and trim the stems.

TurnedOutOrangesAndLemonsAgain · 03/04/2023 21:01

This always happens with tulips and gerberas, in my experience. I now use a really tall vase with them. I once got given some that had wires in the stems to stop them flopping.

Pixiedust1234 · 03/04/2023 21:06

There's a hack where you add a 1p or 2p to the water when you get them. It keeps them upright for longer than 2 days. I only found out about it this year and its worked on 3 different lots of tulips. Apparently you can teach an old dog new tricks ...

LaviniasBigBloomers · 03/04/2023 21:08

I adore tulips but I use a specific high narrow vase for them, trim the stems and take off most of the leaves, use flower food or lemonade and don't put them in a sunny spot. They still do this, but I usually get a few more days. For once, this is not teen damage!

Trumpton · 03/04/2023 21:26

As @AMomentOfTruth said.
Trim the bottom of the stems then take a needle or pin and pierce right through the stem just below the bloom.
Fresh water and boom! Perky tulips!
