Can scar tissue grow back?

When I had my first baby, I tore pretty badly and required stitches. The doctor at the time botched them and very painful scar tissue started to grow in.

I had surgery to remove it and the doctor was shocked by how thick it was. It was 2 fingers width, and I remember at the time she said she couldn’t get it all out because it would have caused a cut between my anus and vagina.

I had another baby about a year later, and I tore again but this time it wasn’t as bad and the stitches were fine.

It’s been about 9 years now and I’m starting to get really sore in that area again. Sex is uncomfortable and dh said he could feel thickening inside last time we had sex.

Google says that it doesn’t grow back. Does it?

Do you mean internally?

Internal scar tissue - adhesions - will develop where there's tissue trauma and it can be 'sticky', causing it to stick to other organs/tissues within the body, which can in turn cause pain. So although in the space of 9 years the previous scar tissue wouldn't have grown back, you could have other scar tissue that is potentially causing the discomfort. Worth seeing your doctor.

Yeah it’s internal. I wanted to see on here first before I talk to a doctor about it….

Im already on their radar for unrelated issues so I didn’t want to come across as a hypochondriac but it is very sore and I would like it sorted before it gets to the agony it could be

This is an incredibly crude drawing but it sort of shows where the pain is

Could also be a prolapse.

MrsBarbaraLangerhans · 02/04/2023 22:03

I was going to suggest prolapse. I had a surgical repair 11 months after my first child (my perineum was refashioned!). Anyway, I had two subsequent babies by c-section. Then, about 9 years after first baby, developed a posterior prolapse where bowel was pressing down at rear of vagina. Developed an odd lumpy bit and pain. Needed surgery again. First birth had weakened the area and aging plus other pregnancies plus weight gain led to the prolapse. Was successfully fixed though.

I’ll mention it to my doctor next time I se him. Thanks

Could it be a keloid scar?
