Cooking pork joint for 4.5 hours

DH usually makes Sunday dinner but he has gone out for the day, leaving me with a set of handwritten instructions on how to roast a pork shoulder joint. Not because I can't cook, but because he has a particular recipe he likes to use. It's a 1.75 kg joint and the instructions on the pack say to roast it for 2 hours and 20 minutes, His instructions, however, say to cook it for four and a half hours - at 200C for 30 minutes then at 150C for 4 hours. Surely that's too long a cooking time?

Its called slow cooking. The instructions on the pack are only one way to cook the joint.

No, that is fine, it is a low and slow recipe. So long as there is no danger of it drying out, it will be delicious.

Absolutely fine. Low and slow cooking is an easy way to do a roast and still be able to not be chained to the kitchen for the day

Awesome way to make sure it's crispy on the outside and tender inside. The lower temperature "relaxes" the meat

Oh no I've misread his instructions and it's a five and a half hour cooking time.

Sounds fine to me, low and slow is generally the way forward. But you can drop him a message and double check?

BBC Good Food's Easy Roast Pork Shoulder method is great - used it a couple of Sundays ago. Great crackling, beautifully moist cooked meat and adding water gives a good amount of juices for gravy. I blended some of this with flour and whisked into the liquid whilst the meat was resting.
