If you're a family of four and have a dishwasher...

How many times a day is it put on? Let's say a weekend day when you're all at home.

Because mine has been on 5 times today...and it's like this most days. Is this normal or am I going wrong somewhere?!

What is going in the dishwasher after baking? Or pancakes? We’d rinse all that stuff here. 5 times!?!?!? You have honestly blown my mind.

SenoritaFajita · 01/04/2023 22:19

I usually hand wash our breakfast stuff and mugs on a weekend as they’re quick and easy, then we only have to turn it on once - the most we’ve ever had to turn it on is twice… on Christmas Day!

manontroppo · 01/04/2023 22:19

For those of you only using it once a day, are you hand washing pots and pans? We can fit two saucepans and plates in the bottom, but the upper rack layout is poor and once we have 3 or 4 breakfast bowls in there, and glasses, there’s hardly room for anything else.

Family of 4 - dishwasher is loaded at the end of the day. Sometimes if we haven't used much (eaten out) it might not go on till the next day.

lljkk · 01/04/2023 22:20

Wow. Just 3 of us & DH is insisting on all handwashing coz the machine would get used too infrequently to wait for it to be full ( he insists).

I think we fill the machine every 2 days or so if just 3 of us (when DH is away & one of my big ones comes home).

Comedycook · 01/04/2023 22:21

Yes it's a full-size dishwasher...! Maybe I could stack things more efficiently...or perhaps we're just greedy and eat lots! I'm clearly going very wrong somewhere judging by everyone else's usage

We are a family of 5 and we use it once a day, after dinner. The only times we would use it twice would be if we have guests staying with us, or possibly on Christmas Day when we have a big fancy breakfast. I cannot fathom using it 5 times a day - the electricity must cost a fortune!

FrozenGhost · 01/04/2023 22:22

Family of four and we run it 5-6 times a week.

Very big pan, 15 inch gets washed by hand and frying pans. All other pans go in the dishwasher. Our midrack can probably fit 8-10 bowls and 8-10 glasses/mugs.

No one drinks tea or coffee though so not many mugs a day, only pint glasses and most of us will refill the glass rather than put it in the dishwasher every time it's empty.

Ok so for the pancakes...I use one mixing bowl, a whisk, a ladle, a fish slice, a spoon to add chocolate spread to the pancake, then there will be a plate, plate cover whilst it's sitting on the table, knife, fork and spoon and a glass for ds drink whilst he's eating it .

Once a day here. I hand wash pans and baking trays though.

Deadringer · 01/04/2023 22:27

We are a family of 7 with 2 cats and a dog and we average 1.5 times a day. We re-use cups etc during the day and I rinse out a few things, otherwise it would be more.

Yep, we reuse coffee mugs and glasses during the day but there’s no way we’d get 8-10 bowls in our middle rack - a combination of our bowls being quite deep and the shit design of the rack. If we have our bowls in the right place, there’s no room for glasses. It really is a shit design -Siemens.

We also have one of those shitty top cutlery trays instead of a basket. You can stick most utensils in a cutlery basket, but the drawer is so shallow it only really fits knives and forks. Fish slices and other utensils have to lie flat on the middle rack.

Impatientwino · 01/04/2023 22:28

Twice and occasionally three times a day if we've done some baking or had people over for lunch/dinner etc

Ok so I’d suggest nutribullet, fish slice, plate, glass and cutlery. No idea what a plate cover is, it does seem an excessive amount of shit to use to make pancakes.
family of 5, once a day max here but I will wash any bulky pans or trays to “save space” and also because they hand wash better.

Withnailandeye · 01/04/2023 22:31

Also the likes of fish slices etc - it literally needs a soap and rinse but it takes stacks of room in a dishwasher - just hand wash it?!

CountryParsonPetal · 01/04/2023 22:31

Family of 4 here, our dishwasher goes on once a day, sometimes less, so 5 or 6 times a week.
We handwash pots and pans as they take up too much room in the dishwasher and it would ruin the non-stick surface anyway.

We have 12-15 people over for Christmas, Easter, Midsummer and Birthdays and would run the dishwasher twice on those occasions.

Orangebadger · 01/04/2023 22:31

On a day when we are all at home, twice a day max.

thatsn0tmyname · 01/04/2023 22:31

Once a day, after tea, except for Christmas or a family get-together, and only then, twice a day.

DomesticElf · 01/04/2023 22:32

Family of 3, soon to be 4. Dishwasher has been on 3 times today, but I barely handwash anything. During weekdays, it's once a day in the evening.

Wheresthebloodynurofen · 01/04/2023 22:32

Wow. That’s so unusual, we use ours once a day max. Five times is insane/

Exhausteddog · 01/04/2023 22:33

Once a day sometimes go 1.5 days before it's full enough to go on.
At Christmas there's usually 6 or 7 of us and it might go on twice but that's a rarity

Wheresthebloodynurofen · 01/04/2023 22:35

No one has five meals a day. I am at a loss how you manage that.

AlwaysLatte · 01/04/2023 22:35

We cook twice a day (three times if we have eg pancakes for breakfast). We're very good about reusing pans and utensil for the same meal but we still use it twice or three times every day.

SeaDee · 01/04/2023 22:35

Twice a day
