Do you upcycle furniture? Does it actually make money?

I’ve seen a few Instagram pages where people do this but it was in the US. Does anyone do this in the UK and is it worth the time and money? I have a couple of wooden chests and small tables and wondering whether to try this or just sell as is.

I'm not really sure. I see two categories of up cycled furniture for sale locally - the first category looks OK but like I might have done it. This category seems to be quite cheap, so I don't imagine there's much money in it. The second category looks better and is priced higher. It must have taken a lot of work and experience to make it look that good though. So, I suppose I don't think this is an easy money maker, and I'm not sure how big the market is now.

I have done it but just for my own use. I have a friend who does it, but tends to advertise the items as-is and work with purchaser on what’s to be done. Basically painting, new handles etc.
To do it really well I think you need skills - upholstering for example - plus a good imagination.

My DH has a friend who does this with his wife. Tbh I think they make more money from documenting the process on social media than they do from actually selling the furniture. Why not try with one of your smaller pieces and see if you make a profit.
