£70k job offer - help

I applied for a job. It's a hybrid position. It's wfh and 1-2 days/week in the office. There was no salary indication on the ad but similar jobs are advertised for £50k-£60k.

I went through a lengthy recruitment process. They asked me what salary I wanted and I asked for £70k. I thought they would negotiate and we could agree on £60k-£65k. But they agreed to £70k!!!

The working hours are 9 to 6 with an hour lunch. All my other jobs have always been 9 to 5 or 5.30.

What should I take into account to make the right decision?

Your current job is a gift.
£56k / 52 weeks / 21 hours = £51.28 per hour.
New job £70k / 52 weeks / 45 hours (that's the working hours of 9-6, not even the commuting hours) = £29.91
You'd have to earn £120k to make it worth it.
(£51.28 x 52 x 45 hours = £120k.

Thank you @Oblomov23 Everyone should know this, its knowing your hourly rate. Its basic. This is how you know whether a job offer is worth your time. You add up your salary, bonus, pensions, the entire package and divide by your weekly hours.

I work with people higher paid than me, but on a lower hourly rate because they work huge hours with big commutes.

Honestly I would just be staying put. If you are only needing to work 21 out of the 40 hour week, that must give you a massive amount of flexibility to pop out to see the school play etc.
If you step up and manage a department (even if wfh, which I doubt they would let you do exclusively) then you will need to be working the full 40-45 hours. You will be working double the hours wih extra stress and responsibility for not much extra money. Yes, career progression is good, but most people would love to have the set up you currently have.

£56k for 21 hours a week is a great deal. What job pays that? Do they think you are working full time but you manage to get work done quicker?

Your new job is more but double the hours & after tax & childcare probably bringing home the same amount if not less.

I was going to suggest you ask for 4 days & lose some salary but that would take you down to what you are currently on.

Before you turn it down can you ask about working from home permanently, 30 mins for lunch instead of an hour etc. if they think you're the right candidate they may make those adjustments for you.
