All that in the title really…

Hampstead Ladies’ Pond is my most magical London space.

Please give me some others and stop me from feeling gutted to be back (was living abroad in my favourite country but had to return for family reasons).

I used to love walking around the bit between Bishopsgate and Spitalfields market - all the old weavers' houses. Fournier Street etc.

Same for walking up through Highgate and Hampstead. It's years since I lived in London, I don't know if I'd recognise it now!

There are so many!

Regents Park theatre on a sunny evening. The Serpantine.

Walking from RFH to Tate Modern, and having a cocktail at the top.

The weird and wonderful Denis Severs Househttps://dennissevershouse.co.uk/

Brick Lane and the surrounds buzzing after dark

DBIL has a flat in a garden square in Kensington, and sitting with a bottle of fizz on a summers night is lovely. The parks are the same.

Sitting at the back of the Thames clippers with a drink as it sails towards the O2. Magnificent views of London Skyline and quick to get back on the Jubilee Line.

In front of the Pieter de Hooch paintings in the national gallery, followed by tea and people watching in their cafe.

Any of the historical pubs around Soho and covent garden, oh if walls could talk!

In front of the Rosetta stone in British museum and just pondering how essential it was unlocking the knowledge of the hieroglyphics.

That bit of Spitalfields is now hipsterified/gentrified (there really should be a word for that blend) beyond belief, but the buildings have all been quite sensitively maintained so it's still a nice place to walk around despite the crowds of students/artists/City workers/tourists.

@pinkdelight sounds wonderful.see you there for the perfect day out you described lol

TheMildManneredMilitant · 01/04/2023 19:18

I've got a book called 'walks with pubs in London' and every one I did made me fall in love with the city a bit more. Inns of Court was my favourite but also the old docklands/industrial bit along Limehouse and Wapping, and Regent's Park/Primrose Hill.

An Easter service in St. Martins or St. James, Piccadilly.

Borough Market if you're a foodie.
Peter Jones for coffee - great views.

The tower at the top of the Garden Museum at Lambeth Palace is lovely.

Communing with the Seagram Murals in the Rothko room at Tate Modern with the other devotees.

Doing a tour of the Wren churches in the City is a lovely way to spend a day.

The Mithraeum near Cannon Street is properly magical because of the weight of history. https://www.londonmithraeum.com/temple-of-mithras/

British Library treasures room is great.

Feeding the parakeets by hand in Kensington Gardens may not be ecologically sound, but it's lovely.

Ah so many -

Keats’ House, Kenwood House, the view from Primrose Hill, the Nash houses by Regent’s Park, the pond in St James’ Park where Virginia Woolf used to walk, Green Park in the dusk overlooking the back of St James’s Street. The John Soane museum, the random stuff in the V&A, the Egyptian and Green stuff in the British museum, National Gallery, Ham House, Hampton Court, the gorgeous conservatory at Kew Gardens, tea at Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park and the view from Richmond Hill…

theministerscat · 01/04/2023 19:23

John Soane's Museum is pretty amazing.

AFlockOfTigers · 01/04/2023 19:28

And mooching round Brixton and getting lunch from the new hipster places in the various small food arcades is fun if you want something a bit more urban and less historically minded. My pick for lunch would be Okan Japanese pancake/omelette place, Koi Ramen or Bhangra Burgers in the shipping containers.

I love this too

I’ve lived in London for 17 years and haven’t been to half of these. Great thread.

My favourites are the Hill Garden & Pergola in Hampstead in late Spring/Summer or the Isabella Plantation in Richmond Park in Spring.
