Verrucas

Bit random but I've got a bout of Athletes foot currently, off to Boots today to get some treatment. Which got me thinking about Verrucas 😂

When I was a kid, I had about 20 on one foot and they had to be burnt off which absolutely killed 😳

Do kids still get them? All my mates had them, probably caught them off me at swimming 😂 but I've never heard of them in years. Do they still exist? 🤔

You'd be amazed how many people want to see a Dr for a verruca (primary care HCP here). So there's deffo still lots of verruca (verrucai?) colonies lurking!

My own kids have had some proper impressive-for-all-the-wrong-reasons ones over the years.

I swear by daily persistence of scrapping with scalpel and buzuka extra strength. I cannot describe the level of satisfaction when the little black headed bits come off!

I had a monster of one, on the ball of my foot when I was about 8. It had about 20
Little black dots in it. Bloody awful.

Yes, although none of my children ever have. I still get them as does my elderly father and brother

Yes my dd had a few on one foot for YEARS. Nothing worked to get rid of them completely. Then one day they all just disappeared as suddenly as they had arrived.

Brendabigbaps · 31/03/2023 10:58

Never had one as a child.
im not tempting fate by saying my child has never had one either!

I got one at about 44, from a posh gym/pool I was a member of. Took 2 years to get rid of it with various treatments, I ended up cutting it out!

Yes, I've just been having a series of treatment to remove a very stubborn one that I've had for years.

DD had them off and on when she was younger but DS never seemed to get them.

Theres a whole section on MN called Sporners Corner. Its full of delights like verrucas.

My DD had one last year. It was both infuriating and satisfying for the two/three months of treatment.

I was a lifeguard at uni and had to do a lot of training in the pool. I got two or three on one foot and one on the other foot and couldn’t get rid of them for years. I ended up having to get advanced electrolysis on them and after a few weeks they died off. It seems there’s a link with having hpv as your body should be able to clear them on its own but mine couldn’t. A friend mentioned when I was around that age that she’s had a problem with verrucas and had to go for regular smears because she has hpv she can’t clear. 8 years on and I’ve had no problems with verrucas since (but have hardly been swimming since).. I now have the same issue with hpv though and my body has clearly not been able to clear it as I now have a dodgy smear result and need cells removed 🙄

Maybe kids have stronger immune systems these days or something? Not sure if kids still get them as much
