Meal/snack ideas for a long coach trip

Dc is due to go on a coach holiday soon, the journey will take approx 24 hours, they will be stopping at service stations but hoping to pack as much as possible so that they don’t need to buy anything.
any ideas appreciated, so far we’ve got a baguette, some crisps and protein bars.

They will want to buy stuff when everyone else is unfortunately. So pack what you think they’ll eat but do provide snack money. It’s fun buying new and interesting food they won’t be able to get here!

Box of nutrigrain bars or whatever his prefered cereal bar is, 4pack of Greggs sausage rolls, 4packets of crisps and some bananas. And some cash to pick up stuff when they stop.

Dried fruit
Small bottle of smoothie
Jerky
Pretzels
Bagel

If the other kids are buying stuff you should provide some cash so they can join in.
but filling stuff like oat cereal bars, dried fruit, pretzels is a good start

Ulezz · 31/03/2023 11:49

thank you!
I have given cash already, I’m just trying to give as many snacks and things as possible so that he’s got the option whether he wants to spend the money

Pepperoni, babybells, smoothie cartons?

That way it's not all crap

Bunnyhascovidnoteggs · 31/03/2023 16:53

When my friend was taking 4 x dc and her dm to Spain via coach her dm offered to provide the picnic.
She turned up in a fake fur coat carrying foil wrapped cheese toasties! Def don't recommend it but at the time it was hilarious!

AdaColeman · 31/03/2023 17:04

Babybel cheeses, raisins, apple, easy peel orange, hard boiled egg with celery salt in a twist of foil, individually wrapped chocolate chip brioche fingers, small cartons of fruit juice with straw, cheese biscuits or bread sticks with little tub of cheese such as President, boiled sweets.

Pringles! I'd pack two lunches and two snacks and the money for a meal or just a portion of chips/ hash brown/ coffee etc

Two sandwiches apple crisps ans cereal bars is really plenty. Pringles haribo chocolate extras treats!!

JJJSchmidt · 31/03/2023 18:47

No to the boiled eggs, very antisocial smell!

I came on to say Pringles but that's because I remember paying £5 for a tube at a service station on a school trip 20 years ago. It would be expensive even in view of 2023 inflation, but 20years ago that was daylight robbery!!

Rubbish!

Cheap, quick to prepare, easy to transport, doesn't need refrigeration, packed with protein to stave off hunger pangs. The perfect picnic food in fact! 🥚 🥚 🥚

When I had a 24 hr coach trip as I kid I remember I had about 3 rolls and two Packets of crisps plus other stuff. It's at least 3 meals worth of stuff that will still be fine after 24 hrs.

SophiaSW1 · 31/03/2023 19:32

Bloody hell who suggested egg on a coach! Noooooo

FluffyTrousers · 31/03/2023 19:38

Hot cross buns are my go to travel food.

Ulezz · 31/03/2023 19:40

Don’t worry I won’t be making eggs 😂 perfect picnic food but definitely not on a coach.
hot cross buns and Pringle’s are a good shout as he loves them, hadn’t thought about smoothies or babybels but will definitely pick some of them up.
thank you all, you’ve been a great help!

A pack of baby wipes and a box of tissues / napkins is essential

purplecorkheart · 31/03/2023 19:57

Maybe a couple bags of those mini biscuits. Some cooked mini sausages. Maybe a scone already with jam and butter on it (to be eaten outside).

Ulezz · 02/04/2023 09:00

Update - thank you for all your ideas, we used lots of them, sent him off with a lot of snacks and some rolls and very glad I did as he’s on one of the coaches stuck at Dover!
coach was meant to board yesterday evening, he’s still in the line for passport control.

Q…I’ve never been on a ferry before so not sure of the terminology but Twitter is saying it’s currently a 10 hour wait for cruise terminal and the buffer zone, is the buffer zone passport control? And is the cruise terminal then after that?

@missnevermind thank you for the baby wipes suggestion as I hadn’t thought of this but I’ve been told it’s come in handy for the whole coach as the toilet roll has ran out!
