Hi just wondering has anyone ever received a letter like this for there toddler my daughter seen the paediatricians last June 2022 and she is now due to see them in may 2023 and it’s says on my daughters letter “ purpose of appointment is to discuss diagnoses “
nursey and speech and language have had alot of input in to all this to think that’s why she is being seen again so soon cos the waiting list has been so long with covid they said huge backlogs
I will post a pic of what the letter says too but speech and language said may get a diagnoses or she may not I don’t no wether I’m coming or going tbh with it all

xx

Yes. It’s quite common if there is a speech delay. In our case DC was getting frustrated through being unable to talk and hence was flagged. We had the appointment which was very pleasant.

@TakeMe2Insanity aww bless it’s awful isn’t it my daughter can’t talk either she did do and then it all stopped at 14 months and she hasn’t spoke since I do still try and teach her and nursey do too so do you think she will get her diagnoses from what that sticky note says ? Did you child get there diagnoses

My son is now nearly 13 so.im.going back ten years but he got a diagnosis of autism and learning disabilities at three and a half ,i after seven months of assessments from nursery ,Salt, paediatrician, portage, ect it went to a panel and they all agreed he had autism and learning disabilities.

We had a phone call to discuss diagnosis following assessments (of autism and dyspraxia, this was about 12 years ago). Whether we felt the diagnosis was correct and how we felt about making it official it etc. It was quite useful to be able to talk it through, given how emotional the whole process is. The meeting was then followed up by the official diagnosis letter.

Thank you for sharing your experiences I’m new to all this my little girl is under speech and language and she’s also got reports from nursey she currently has a 1:1 for all her sessions too
I’m not sure what we are gonna get out of this appointment i was just confused when it said “ to discuss diagnoses “ but weather she will get one or not I have no clue suppose I’ll find out she goes 17th may xx

Hopefully the meeting will be useful. We found the diagnoses to be immensely helpful, my DC was older (about 8) but it helped us get extra support at primary school, an EHCP by secondary school, benefits (DLA/PIP) and now support at university. However at the time it was upsetting even though I was expecting it.

Shauna2866 · 09/04/2023 19:00

@ExtremelyDetermined aww I bet I’m dreading it tbh but I definitely know she is autistic bless her she’s non verbal she has a 1:1 in nursey during all her sessions and she’s currently on DLA too
suppose I will have to wait and see what the outcome will be I just want her to get the eight support when she starts school properly and make sure she’s okay x

Yes but along time ago and we had to attend without our son so they could explain how they had come to the conclusion of his diagnosis x

We've seen the paediatrician once, who referred us for an autism assessment (waiting list currently 2 years for the next appointment in my area!). She told us from the second appointment, it takes roughly a year for an official diagnosis and will involve other professionals too such as an educational psychologist etc. I'm absolutely no expert but I'd say you won't be walking away with a diagnosis from your next appointment unless other professionals have been observing/ in contact? I may be totally wrong though!

Shauna2866 · 09/04/2023 21:51

@HiImTheProblemItsMe not sure then what’s going to happen but why would that sticky note say “to discuss a diagnosis “
theres been plenty of other professionals observing my daughter I did also ring up the receptionist for the paediatricians and she said if you have that sticky note on your letter you will more than lightly be getting a diagnosis but I’m not bothered either way tbh I’ll just wait and see what happens but there is a lot of people involved with my daughter she had a 1:1 at nursery for all her sessions ect
what will be will be I’ll update one we have been to the appointment x

Don’t know weather I’ve already mentioned in my previous post but my daughter has already seen the paediatricians this isn’t her first appointment .
