Giving my gardeners notice

user68901 · 30/03/2023 16:55

Please can I get your views. I want to stop my gardeners coming. They charge a bomb to mow the lawn, blow some leaves around and "weed" meaning they damage shoots and I've lost so many flowers through their carelessness.

Should I give them say a months notice ? more /less?

"Don't come back next time" should suffice

What’s the current agreement with them? How many hours/price/frequency/any contract?

user68901 · 30/03/2023 16:59

He just texts me at the end of the month to say how many visits and tells £XXX
no written contract. They come once a week £45 - 2 of them here for about 25 mins plus the cost of replacing plants

Text back, say from todays date you don’t want any more visits. No need to give notice if you don’t have a contract. They will find other mugs clients quickly as it’s that time of year!

£45 seems a lot - I pay (at commercial rates, through work) £22 per man hour, and with two of them there for 25 minutes that is all you're getting!

It depends how nice you want to be. I would usually go with a couple of week's notice, or if you're happy to then notice to the end of the month. If they've got no contract they can't say much about it!

You’re paying £45 for 50 minutes work. That’s very expensive.
Just hand them a note, or text the person who texts you No further visits required.

Thanks all. I think i’ll go half way and give them 2 weeks notice as someone said . I’m glad its not jut me thinking expensive though we are in surrey where pretty much everything is an arm and a leg .
