Botox gone wrong! Help

shimmerondown · 30/03/2023 11:00

So, I got my first ever Botox done last week and something odd has happened

There are now two permanent lines on my head? If you zoom in you'll see

Do I need to go back or is this normal? Asking as many Mn posters seem to be familiar with the treatment

the man doing it suggested it's good to start a bit young so you need less as you do get older

I bet he did!

For what it's worth, I think you look great. I'm not in the mumsnet Botox Bad camp at all, but I would also have some reservations about a practitioner who didn't have a conversation about trying some less invasive things for your skin before going the injectables route at your age, particularly considering that having gone through early menopause must present some psychological as well as physical issues.

Have you tried (or thought about trying) retinoids, led lights, etc.? I suspect it's the feeling of dull or tired skin rather than actual wrinkles that you're bothered by. Also, it's probably worth making sure your hormone levels are what they should be. I'm menopausal at a more typical age and I've found that it only takes a small dip in oestrogen for me to see it in my skin.

So, the shorter version - go back, get it checked in 2 weeks, but maybe think about some other things before you go back again. I know the line about starting younger, but I find it pretty dubious.

25? Wowzer.
You don't need to put that stuff in your skin.

Of course he's going to say that!

userxx · 30/03/2023 14:23

You don't need botox yet, wait another 10 years and save your money.

diddl · 30/03/2023 14:27

What made you think that you needed it in the first place?

menopausalbloat · 30/03/2023 14:42

As people have already said, you do not need this shit pumped into your face at 25.
The best thing you can do for your skin is sunblock and to drink plenty of water.

For context, I went for consultation to start with as my skin was looking a bit down and not as 'springy'

I am a carer on very little sleep and hit menopause after having my son at 20! Really noticed a different in my skin since starting HRT... and not for the better

That’s not true op, I was doing it from my thirties. I’m now mid fifties, if anything you need more. I stopped by the way, but I then got a saggy eye as the muscles were so weak as they’d been frozen too long. I’d echo the others, you don’t want to be doing this yet.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 30/03/2023 15:11

going through the menopause at 25 whilst simultaneously looking after a small child must be so tough. maybe look at hydration (drinking more water as well as hydrating serums), and tretinoin, and spf. They can do wonders for a tired complexion. But from what I can see you have lovely skin though.

SophiaLarsen · 30/03/2023 15:24

So sorry to hear you've had an early menopause. What HRT are you on? If not a transdermal one, swapping to one might help?

So those 2 fine horizontal lines you say were not there before?

TheMatriarchy · 30/03/2023 16:08

Bad idea to start so young, your face muscles will atrophy and make aging much worse for you later. Face yoga is much better for you and free!

GlassBunion · 30/03/2023 16:20

He saw you coming.

You don't need this procedure. The sooner you start , the more you'll keep on doing and you'll end up looking completely plastic with a static face.

How much face movement do you have? Shouldn't have touched it at your age other than 'perhaps minimal baby botox as it's called, and that's more usual at 30 onwards

PlainJanePerfect · 30/03/2023 19:35

Regarding the early menopause. I knew someone similar. She was told she went through menopause at 25- adopted, divorced, remarried and ended up having three kids in her 30s. Sometimes your body does annoying things but you might find it comes back. 🤞

pharmachameleon · 30/03/2023 19:55

I think it's best to wait as long as possible before getting Botox. In my own completely unscientific opinion I think you only get about 10 years good effect from Botox. I first started getting it in my early thirties and now I'm 48 it doesn't really work at all for me. I would definitely wait until you are late thirties. It certainly didn't work as a preventative for wrinkles with me!

Mamette · 30/03/2023 19:58

I clicked on this expecting a cautionary tale but tbh I’m now thinking of booking in for Botox
