Anyone supposed to be going to Paris (not by plane!) soon? How are you feeling?

Hi,

Just that really. Due to go in a couple of weeks, but with all the riots etc, I'm becoming more and more nervous.

Anyone else?

It will be fine. The bin strike is over. The next protest is set for the 6th April. Even when the protests are on it is limited to a few streets. Meanwhile life goes on.

Kfjsjdbd · 30/03/2023 11:54

My husband is running the marathon there so we are going this weekend. I’ll come and report back afterwards! Am sure it will be fine though.

Vanillaradio · 30/03/2023 11:59

We are going for May half term. I feel like the majority of times I have been to Paris there is some form of protests/strikes etc going on somewhere so not that worried at the moment- feel like we can work round it unless it really escalates.

Orchid90 · 30/03/2023 12:09

Due to go beginning of may .
mom not worried about the city itself as it’s not a war, there will be protests in some areas and not in others and the city is big .
I am more worried about the plane and trains ..I can walk once in Paris but the plane is out of my control.

RosaBonheur · 30/03/2023 12:16

It's fine. I live in France and I mostly hear about how France is on fire from the pant wetters in the UK media, which likes to pretend that France is an ungovernable basket case.

What on earth do you imagine might happen to you on the plane?

Radiatorvalves · 30/03/2023 14:03

I was in France last weekend. Not Paris, but no issues at all. A friend who’d been in Paris said it was a bit smelly. Do watch out for the queues at airports… much longer for Brits now we are no longer in the club. I smugly walked past with my EU passport.

Cherrybl0ssm · 30/03/2023 14:08

Due to go in April - middle/end. Hoping the bib strike will be over.
Planning for the best.

pumpkinspicedcaffeine · 30/03/2023 14:27

been there several times during protests, most recently a few weeks ago. People wearing protest badges and signs were even getting on the metro me and my kids were on, it was fine, you’ll be fine :)

MissAmbrosia · 30/03/2023 14:31

I'm due to go for work after Easter weekend. More worried my train will be cancelled.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 30/03/2023 14:48

There might be a demonstrator on the plane with a burning tyre blocking access to the toilet, which would be a bit of a nuisance. 😕

I love France but last year had two massively contrasting experiences. First May BH weekend we went as a family to stay with the family of my DDs French friend. They live in a village not far outside Paris, and both work in Paris. It was a fabulous weekend.

Fast forward to the second May BH weekend and DH & I are back in Paris to attend the CL final. He just about managed to get in but I was bumped, pushed and tear gassed by French riot police. It was horrendous and even writing about it brings me out in a sweat!

Seeing those same police on the news attacking civilians brought it back a little as well.

I do admire the French for sticking up for themselves and not being complete walkovers that we are in this country though.

I also refused to let DD go on the French school trip at Christmas as the hotel was in St Denis but I shall go back to France, and eventually Paris no doubt, but not during these protests as I know it will freak me out.

pompomdaisy · 30/03/2023 14:55

I would bloody join in . Viva La liberation 🇫🇷

pant wetters is right.

'FRANCE IS ON FIIIIIRE' absolute numpties.

we're going in less than 2 weeks now. Not too worried about the protests as they're usually easy to avoid. The rubbish piling up wouldn't be much fun but they're going to sort that out, and I hear the touristy spots have hired private companies to collect waste.

The biggest potential issue I think will be if the transport workers go on strike whilst we're there, as we were planning to use the Metro and the train.

Probably best to avoid if you have IBS then, otherwise you should be fine.

lightlypoached · 30/03/2023 15:49

My DD went last weekend. It was fine. Nothing to worry about. Some metro stations closed but everything else was fine.

Have a lovely trip !

Catnuzzle · 30/03/2023 16:16

I'm going in Sunday, was due back Thursday but have rearranged flights and coming 12 hours earlier.

Orchid90 · 30/03/2023 17:35

@RosaBonheur that they might cancel it.

Orchid90 · 30/03/2023 17:39

@RosaBonheur sorry , might have had to use the word flight instead of plane . English is not my mother tongue. They are cancelling flights due to air traffic control striking too.
so yes , not sure walking there would be an option tbh .

LlynTegid · 30/03/2023 18:05

I was there last weekend. No issues at all apart from overflowing dustbins.

Yeah I know what you mean. Foreign media always makes mountains out of molehills. Look at the tomato reports a few weeks ago with people all over the EU gabbling on here that it's in their media we have no food in the UK. Look at whenever The Guardian puts out one of their stupid polls and foreign media picks it up...oh UK miss the EU, ooh UK want to rejoin. It's all rubbish.

The pant wetters of the world believe the bollocks. No matter which country they belong to.

Oh I see!

Well fingers crossed, hopefully your flight won't get cancelled. May is a lovely time to go.

Moeben · 01/07/2023 10:22

The school trip should be cancelled it is not safe to take chances with children and not a holiday with the trouble that is going on and what about the mother and father's and familys at home worrying about them so stupid to let them go
