Car insurance HELP

A few weeks ago I had an incident where some prick tried to overtake me on a narrow road with oncoming traffic and drove into my car. I let my insurance company aware of the situation, explaining what happened and that he might make a claim. He hasn't made a claim even now, guessing because it was obviously his fault. But my insurance is coming up for renewal and my NCD has been effected, even though neither of us have made a claim. So I have to pay almost twice as much insurance this year for an accident that wasn't my fault. I'm fuming, is there anything I can do about this? They're saying the claim has to remain open for 6 months incase he decides to claim. But I didn't even make a claim. UGHH

if it was his fault your insurance company should be claiming from his. Did you get his details or was it a hit and run?

I got his details but my car wasn't damaged, his was. So I didn't feel I needed to make a claim

I assumed he would because he was trying to act like it was my fault he drove into my car, but he obviously realised in hindsight he was a massive knob

I don't understand how no claim has been made and yet I've lost my NCD

You did the right thing in letting your insurance company know. So don't be upset that you did.

In regards to your premium this year going up, is that with the same provider, or have you done a comparison with other insurance providers?

In general, car insurance prices are expected to be 18% higher for 2023 renewals, so anything around that is the norm unfortunately. I would just be vigorous in looking for quotes. Quotes for myself when we last renewed ranged heavily between £400 - £3000 depending on what provider we looked at - so it's pretty ridiculous the price difference you can be quoted from one high street provider to the next! PS our cheapest was with Hastings Direct.

Hi, thank you for replying. I'm also with Hastings direct. I've just spoke to them and they've said I can pay the full amount now, or set up a direct debit if I can't afford to do so (which I have done), and that in 6 months time if the knob still hasn't made a claim I will get a refund or money knocked off the direct debit. Which is what I've done. Maybe I should've shopped around first, which is what I usually do. But was being stubborn I guess 🤦‍♀️ Oh well.
