Can you feel your contact lenses

On my 4th set of trial ones.

Getting nearer prescription wise but sooo itchy and scratchy. Im persevering and using drops but wondered if it's a case of getting used to them or if I should be expecting them to be less uncomfortable.

Your experiences would be good to hear.

By the end of the day, my eyes can start to feel dry and that’s when I know it’s time to take them out. But generally I can forget they’re in. I also was told I had dry eyes and given drops, might try the fish oil as a pp suggested.

I have dry eyes. I can only wear mine for 6-7 hours befire they become so uncomfortable so they are out by mid afternoon.

@underneaththeash
Don't worry, I'm not ordering random stuff off the internet! I used to have hard lenses and always used one particular brand of cleaning solution. I also (had fitted and checked) dailies which I wore when swimming or doing water sports.

I then went on to monthly soft lenses as I stopped wearing my hard lenses during lockdown and couldn't get used to them again afterwards. I wore glasses or my dailies. I found the monthlies so uncomfortable I went back and ordered some more of the daily lenses. As I needed more cleaning solution for the monthlies I was trialling, and wanted free postage, I ordered the same brand I used for my hard lenses because they didn't stock the one the optician had given me. Now I have no issues with the monthly ones.

I always wear monthlies.

I have 2 friends who wear dailies who always complain of dryness, feeling the lenses and just being uncomfortable. They often took them out dinner time, or if going out in the evening wore glasses all day so they could tolerate them at night.

My optician gave me a bunch of dailies as they were no longer going to stock them or some reason - I can't remember. Then I had the same issues, by teatime I couldn't wait to take them out.

I mentioned this to my 2 friends and they now wear monthlies full time with no issues.

So long story short - could you try a monthly prescription?

Do you have lenses that correct an astigmatism?

I should also have lenses that correct an astigmatism but it's borderline and I've not been able to get along with these types of lenses as I can feel them. They're weighted so one edge is thicker than the other, I can always feel the bottom of the lens rubbing against my lower lid. Normal lenses I've worn for 10+ years and I can't feel them.

Another vote for checking they're not inside out though. I did that one day when I first got them!

I agree with the pp who said that not drinking enough water makes eyes dryer and therefore contact lenses more uncomfortable.
Try drinking loads of water and see if it helps

Yes, when I have dry eyes.
I also noticed that Acuvue 1-day lenses are getting less and less comfortable to me. Funnily enough, store where I buy lenses, recommended me some new ones, much cheaper and they're perfect.

Paesano · 30/03/2023 13:16

Are you sure the lenses aren't inside out? That makes them uncomfortable like you describe.

Aphrathestorm · 30/03/2023 13:23

One they are in properly you shouldn't be able to feel them.

EspeciallyDedicated · 30/03/2023 13:23

No, only if they get inside out. Mine are extended wear but I wore rigid gas permeables for 20+ years before switching to these and after the first couple of weeks only noticed those if they got dust behind them.

IAteAllTheTomatoes · 30/03/2023 13:46

I suspect you have dry sensitive issues. Fir years, I couldn't wear contacts as I would feel them, would itch and they would jump out.

Acevue, as others have mentioned, was a game changer. I've tried to download grade to cheaper alternatives a few themes over the years but my eyes reject pretty much everything else
My optician says it's fairly common.

shelbaba · 30/03/2023 14:08

When I first started wearing them I could but I don't remember it lashing very long. I've worn them for 20years now and if they are sore when I put them in then there's something wrong. Something has got on the lens or interferes with it. Sometime they can be inside out. Try flipping it back over if that don't work just out in a new one.

I used to wear monthly ones and they were horrible but fresh daily ones should not feel once u have blinked a few times and they r settled.

I have dry eyes and I have to get the ones that u can sleep with in (only I'm not allowed to do this with them). They are fabulous. Get mine from specsavers.
