Does anyone use soap instead of shower gel?

I've seen it recommended loads on here but I have a question...

I tried using just a soap bar and I feel loads cleaner, squeaky clean and fresher for longer

However, it really does seem to dry out the skin? I don't know how to describe it, but basically it's fine when cleaning with it but when you rinse it under water, the skin has this tight feeling?

I don't mean dry skin when dry if that makes sense.

What soaps do people use that don't have this as any soap I've ever tried does this?

One more question- what do you apply soap with? Buffer thing, sponge, washable flannel, nothing?

Nothing, I have used those scratchy net things and have one at home but forget to use it

And when i did use one it went yucky

Make my own soap! It's easier than you think. You need some basic safety kit like goggles and

Depends which part of the body for me! I alternate between flannel, exfoliating gloves (I love these, great for in between toes and belly button) and a shower puff

GuyFawkesDay · 29/03/2023 21:45

Sorry! Goggles and gloves.

I make my own recipes up with the smells and moisturising/exfoliation level I want. Currently on some sea minerals soap with pumice in as my skin needs buffing up for summer!

I tend to use a higher olive oil content but it takes months to "cure" so you can switch the butters etc you use so it can be ready in a month.

Sometimes.

I have used soap since I started exercising a lot. I get sweaty at the gym and muddy from running in the park. Soap is much better for getting me properly clean than shower gel. I like Dove and Simple when I don't want to spend on anything fancier. Also supermarket own brands. I agree with others that your skin gets used to it. Now I find shower gel more drying than soap.

ForestofD · 29/03/2023 21:48

Yes, always. Whole house does.

Shower gel always gave me Thrush- and I tried many 'sensitive' ones. Gave up, went with soap, no problem since.

ArdeteiMasazxu · 29/03/2023 21:48

yep I only use soap. The slightly dry feeling is what being clean feels like. can't stand the slimy residue that gels leave behind.

TruthsAndALie · 29/03/2023 21:48

I’m not convinced of the hygiene of those shower puffs. I’ve seen them go black presumably from build up of dead skin and soap/gel residue 🤮

Frizzis · 29/03/2023 21:52

This thread has convinced me to ditch shower gel. There are so many lovely soap recommendations that i am looking forward to trying out. What do you use to apply the soap? Hands, a puff, a sponge?

PlanningTowns · 29/03/2023 21:52

Faith in nature in a jute bag. Lovely soap, I feel clean and the bag is exfoliating!

started during lockdown and very rarely use shower gel now!

Dente · 29/03/2023 21:53

Yes. I love Kiels exfoliating soap.

Tink1990 · 29/03/2023 21:53

Ah, thank you @Knullrufs I may look into buying something alternative in that case!

InSpainTheRain · 29/03/2023 21:54

Yes! I only use Billy and Lillys goats milk soap with zero fragrance due migraine triggers. Love that soap especially with a puffa, layers well and feel squeaky clean but not drying. We live in a hard water area.

Puff.

I’ve been using Oliva soap forever. Body and face. I don’t smell, I look clean and I have very few wrinkles for my age. It might not be the soap, but I’m not willing to risk anything by changing at this point!

Jellylover · 29/03/2023 21:58

Nesti Dante soap is gorgeous. Last for ages and smells heavenly.

maddiemookins16mum · 29/03/2023 22:02

I’m an Imperial Leather user, always makes me feel clean.

lovemycbf · 29/03/2023 22:05

I use faith in nature lavender soap or Nesti Dante soap bars which although seem expensive they are big bars and last a long time .Amazon have some mixed packs of the nesti Dante at a reasonable price

BlastedPimples · 29/03/2023 22:07

Soap always. Not fussy about which kind.

Shower gel just isn't economical and all that plastic.

Ishouldbeoutside · 29/03/2023 22:09

Goats milk or olive oil soap

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 29/03/2023 20:38

No shower gel for me, brillo pad here, with a green Scotchbrite less-scratchy thing for those 'sensative' areas.

😂

SquigglePigs · 29/03/2023 22:13

I use a Tropic one and my skin has never felt better. I do keep a shower gel around sometimes in case I'm in a rush though as soap seems to take longer somehow.
