Do cubs/beavers badges have to be imaticutelivy straight?

My children have joined these groups and I'm just sewing their badges onto the uniform im not a good sewer in the slightest and some have came out really crooked. Do they need to be immacuteively straight, my ocd is going mad however these are like the 3rd attempts and its still not bloody straight?

Our were always wonky. I hate seeing badges with a passion. Apparently you can buy badge glue which could be a good idea. Just don’t do what I did and wundaweb them on in a panic before remembrance parade. I watched as they all peeled off his arm 🙈

Pootles34 · 29/03/2023 14:27

It doesn't matter at all. However if it's bugging you, the way to get them straight is to wonder web them on first, then sew. If you can be arsed.

They have to be pretty straight yeah but not perfect

WhereismyHeathcliff · 29/03/2023 14:27

No, don't worry about it. The
older sections tend to sew on their own badges anyway and no one is judging wonky sewing ! Im a scout leader and my badges arent dead straight lol

Lindy2 · 29/03/2023 14:34

I've never managed to sew one on completely straight. They're awkward little things.

Mine are in Scouts now and not once have my dodgy badge sewing skills been commented on.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 29/03/2023 14:37

No. Try your best but it’s impossible to get them spot on.

I wouldn’t go for glue or wonderweb - some have to come off and be replaced by the next stage up and lots need to be taken off and put on to the next uniform when they move up to the next section. Just always buy a shirt or jumper big enough when they move up to last for the next however many years!

missingthewinchesterboys · 29/03/2023 17:04

I'd just be happy that they were on the uniform! Our group spends a fortune on badges and some never get seen on.

Ask the leaders if they have anyone badge sewing to raise money.
Several of the kids going to the Jamboree this year are charging 50p a badge to sew them on.

FionnulaTheCooler · 29/03/2023 17:07

I wonder web mine on to get the right position then sew round the edges. Badges are a pain in the arse, I make all the right noises when DD brings one home but inside I'm fuming that I've got to sew the bloody thing on.

justasking111 · 29/03/2023 17:07

A child at cubs was told if because the badge was in the wrong place last week

GymNewbie · 29/03/2023 17:14

Badge glue is your friend!

DrinkingAllTheGin · 29/03/2023 17:14

Just on the uniform would be better than most. Straight is impossible.

TooMinty · 29/03/2023 17:16

I usually have a large glass of wine before I even start sewing them so no chance of getting them straight 😂

redspottedmug · 29/03/2023 17:33

Some groups have volunteers that sew badges on in exchange for a donation to group funds. Worth asking.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 29/03/2023 18:00

Really hope not because our Brownie badges aren't. Tip for anyone sewing badges onto sleeves is to shove a Pringles tube or similarly sharped item into the sleeve then sew. It stops you sewing through to the other side of the sleeve and makes it much easier to hold it all in place.

SquidwardBound · 29/03/2023 18:01

Personally, I think cubs should be sewing on their own badges. So no. They won’t be straight.

Abzs · 29/03/2023 18:05

We have cubs who love getting a badge, but we never see them on their jumpers. At least you've put them on the jumper.

camelfinger · 29/03/2023 18:08

It’s harder now you have to sew them in the sweatshirts. I find it really difficult so can’t imagine the cubs doing it themselves.

God I hope not OP otherwise I’ve failed spectacularly 😂

crymeout · 29/03/2023 18:14

@Findyourneutralspace 😂😂😂

BogRollBOGOF · 29/03/2023 18:32

I pin then sew. Aiming for the Fleur de Lys at 12 o'clock helps.

DelurkingAJ · 29/03/2023 18:35

Also learn from my error and don’t machine see them on because when they go up and you have to get them off again it’s an absolute pain. I thought I was being so clever because they’d be safe in the wash…gah!

PuttingDownRoots · 29/03/2023 18:37

For sleeve badges... put some rolled up card or an empty bottle down the sleeve. Means you can't sew the sleeve together.

As a leader we are just happy to see them on the uniform in approximately the right position. The only time it really matters is if they get their Kings Scout award in Explorers an take a trip to the Palace.

megletthesecond · 29/03/2023 18:46

No. My dc's badges were always wonky. I lost the will to live sewing the things on.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 29/03/2023 20:44

Nope. I use glue...
