I'm so, so tired of my eyes streaming/tearing in the cold wind (or whenever I go outside, really). Mop, mop, mop with a tissue. Skin around the eyes ends up wet and red and sore. Ruins any attempt at looking vaguely passable.

I suspect I have dry eyes and need to step up drops and warm compresses. I have been lazy and I guess my attempts feel like they've never worked, so what's the point (though I admit they've been intermittent).

If you have similar, what's your regime and did it change things?

I don't think I have blepharitis; it wasn't mentioned at a recent eye test.

I have MGD which I had never even heard of, although my consultant says I have had it for years and years (explains a lot!) https://www.webmd.com/eye-health/meibomian-gland-dysfunction

I now always use sunglasses when outside / driving etc which really makes a difference even in bright but cloudy days (if you see what I mean). I also use a mobility scooter (poor mobility due to arthritis) and when out on that I either use sunglasses, or - often - cyclists reactolite glasses (which have extra protection from wind etc. This makes a huge difference on a day to day basis.

What Is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction?

One of the leading causes of dry eyes is trouble with the tiny oil glands in your eyelids. Learn more about this condition and what you can do for it.

PS I should say that I had had loads of eyes tests over the years, always mentioned excessive dry eyes, and not one optician mentioned MGD as a possibility. I had to fight and fight to get a referal to a specialist as the NHS doesn't like spend money on the condition.

Really step up the warm compresses and eye massage ,it will help of not sort it completely.

I suffer with this, always have. Eyes constantly stream. My dad was the same so I assumed hereditary but I dunno maybe something else going on.

I just live with it. Sunglasses help a bit.

interesting, thank you. This has been going on for many years (used to cycle to work and that meant extreme tearing) so I do wonder if my glands are blocked. I can see little bumps, and one not do litttle, near the eyelash follicles.

I wear sunglssses a lot; happy to look stupid even on a cloudy day. It’s definitely worse without.

I see lots of private providers are now advertising ‘solutions’ for MGD, including squeezing the ducts and widening the tear channel. Hundreds of pounds just for a consultation.

What has your NHS consultant suggested?

Try glasses without the tint if sunglasses make things too dark for you?
