Would you allow your seven year old to play FIFA on the switch?

Is he too young?

What are everyone’s thoughts?

user56912 · 29/03/2023 10:54

but not fortnite etc

gamerchick · 29/03/2023 10:55

Why wouldn't FIFA not be alright . It's just football.

Booyou123 · 29/03/2023 10:56

I guess I’m worried about him accessing video games and does it lead to addiction and violent behaviour etc

FIFA is a really good game to get them into. Likely he will become into computer games a bit anyway. But I would be encouraging fifa over other games.

What could possibly be objectionable about Fifa? You know it’s just Football? Surely it’s a question of how often and if you want to allow regular gaming at only 7YOs but if you already own a Switch then you’re probably past that point. However, if it’s not at home and it’s for example at friends house, hotel kids club or similar then I wouldn’t give it a second thought.

Twentyquestions · 29/03/2023 11:05

FIFA seems to my kids less addictive than other games. Once they have done a couple of games they don’t really want to stay on and do loads more. Also I play with my 10 year old so we can play together which is nice. I am not a gamer at all but it’s nice we can do it together.

Booyou123 · 29/03/2023 11:06

My husband is worried that we get him in to gaming too early. He uses the iPad for his tuition lessons and when his cousins or friends come over usually some iPad game that is age appropriate, and then we usually play a couple of hours some weekends of a Mario family game which is a lot of fun where we all get involved.

He really wants it for his birthday next month, he hardly spends anytime watching tv. Mainly kicking a football around. I don’t see a problem but I just thought I’d ask and see what other mums thought.

If you are sat with your child and playing with them, it's not an issue. My son is 6, and he has 30 mins of switch time at 6pm. We play Mario kart together and talk about his day. Use it as a bonding exercise.

Also FIFA? Naaaahhhh rubbish game that. Get yourself Mario kart or Mario Supercharged Soccer ;)

To correct myself, I didn’t see a problem until my husband mentioned in and then my thoughts went into - oh what about addictive behaviour etc.

And I know it is just football. I really like the caveat of only playing if we sit down with you. Then it is interactive too!

We also play animal crossing together; it's quite text heavy so it helps practice reading.

My sons school uses iPads and computers everyday. Forbidding the switch and tablets at home will no doubt cause more issues when they are older.

FlounderingFruitcake · 29/03/2023 11:30

Make it like Mario then, play against each other at the weekends, or with a friend when he has one round to play? Like you say make it interactive!

Booyou123 · 29/03/2023 12:08

Thanks all ☺️ Great suggestion with the interactive play element to it. I’m a full time working mother so I look forward to that bonding time!!

On this theme, I want to buy FIFA 25 for my seven-year-old but our switch is not connected to the Internet. The game box says that an Internet connection is required. Can I connect to the Internet, download the game, and then disconnect to play off-line?
