Of course I know what I've got to do and of course I know its going to be quite a journey but can anyone who has lost a significant amount of weight let me know any tips or things they did to keep motivation going while losing weight.

So far I'm not concentrating on the whole amount, just breaking it down into half stone goals.

I know I'm going to change my work routine- freely available chocolate, snacks, meals etc have not helped!!
At least I've faced up to facts and ready to go rather than think " at some point I need to lose weight"

Eat a hard boiled egg or a bowl of vegetable soup before every meal. Takes the edge off

Low carb, low cal, weight watchers, slimming world all work.

But you need to find what's best for you personally

Do you walk/ exercise at all? Increasing your walking every day is a good place to start, along with eating less of course.

That's interesting. I know some countries do this as standard. Romania , for example.

I think @badgermushrooms suggestion is good, and approved by Zoe, who are research based. Long term change comes from building new habits into your diet, one at a time. Place the emphasis on adding good things (eg much more frequent fruit and veg, and more pulse based meals, or dropping sugar) over bad ones. And bit by bit, building in permanent change slowly, so that you don't gain it all back. The Mediterranean diet comes up time and again as extremely healthy.

Try Saxenda I lost 2 stone in 9 weeks on it! Completely stopped my binge eating.

Look at the glucose goddess on Instagram. I have found it really useful to consider the way I eat and have lost 15lbs since Feb.

So I’m ‘naturally slim’

I don’t finish food. I stop as soon as I’m full, so I might leave 1/4 of a bag of crisps.

I don’t snack. I’m out and about with work which might make this easier.

I eat slowly…not sure how easy this is to change.

Have homemade soup for lunch/snacks. I use a soup maker so can do when working from home and don’t need to watch it simmer. Also don’t sweat off anything in oil/butter. Is literally veggies in stock.

When I was veggie if I craved meat I ate something so I was no longer hungry. You could do this if you crave something unhealthy, eat something healthy instead to take the hunger away.

Brush your teeth instead of snacking- I don’t do this but read it once.

Wishing you the best for this OP - you can do it and have taken positive steps already. So many people in same position at the moment. I have a couple of friends who have lost / are loosing a similar amount - their tips…

  • chunk into half stones and set timescale targets that feel comfortable to you
  • be clear with yourself why this must happen - literally say it to yourself. You have to be compelling in the why and how - it will need work and will probably take at least 2 years to do this sustainably
  • use a micro-moves plan - this is about recognising opportunity and changing one thing at a time and holding that one thing for four weeks before you add another move. For example, cutting alcohol through the week or walking an extra xx minutes per day. Make the micro moves as simple as possible and say well done to yourself (out loud) each time!
  • only weigh yourself once a month - be unmoving in this
  • focus on creating positive nudges - have lots of fresh fruit etc in and minimal snacks, buy something to measure your steps etc
  • don’t diet, count calories, stop treats etc - this isn’t about punishing yourself
  • don’t stop eating fat - focus on a steady streams of good fats if you can as they’re filling
  • the other ways they did it - stop / limit alcohol, cut out certain excess treats (lunchtime bag of crisps), fasting (only eating between 10am -7pm as an example) and creating a small number of balanced meals they liked (steamed fish/chicken and veg etc) that were quick, easy and that they enjoyed.

Make each goal a small one, they are much easier to achieve that way. For instance choose a specific thing, like drinking one glass of water extra a day for a week. Or putting one spoonful less potato, rice or pasta, and replace it with one more portion of veg.

You can't change years of habits all at once, so break it up into tiny steps. And don't get miserable with yourself if you have a bad day, put it behind you. Treat every day as a new day.
