Can someone talk to me about low carb…

I’m really keen to do this but I’m a bit confused.
i tried it before and got a recipe book, but it was all very rich fatty food - lots of cheese and meat etc and it made me feel really unhealthy.
I did lose a bit of weight but I think maybe I was eating too much as I wasn’t really measuring calories or how much fat and protein?
I’ve looked online at some recipes and plans but they all seem similar to what I had on plan before

does anyone do it without eating lots of rich food as it doesn’t really agree with me?

I low carb. Not really thought of it as a rich diet before. DietDoctor might be a good resource for you? I don’t calorie count or anything but I guess it’s more of a way of eating for me than a diet.

When I low carb I don’t do elaborate meals.
For example I now eat the same lunch every day - 3 scrambled eggs (cooked in coconut oil) topped with cottage cheese; 2 thick bacon rashers; chopped cucumber, cherry tomatoes, radishes, carrot, olives.

Dinner is meat/fish and 4 types of veg.

Which plan were you on before?

I can’t remember what the plan was called but there was a book and I used the recipes from that
there was lots of cheese and red meat and cream from what I remember!

I get bored eating the same thing so for it to be sustainable I need a bit of variety.

I don’t eat huge amounts of red meat, probably twice a week. My cheese consumption increased when I started low carb, but my non-low-carbing OH still eats more of it than me! I’m mostly chicken and fish.

You can go beyond low carb to keto and still have masses and masses of above-ground vegetables and salad. Avoid potatoes, carrots, turnip. Nuts for snacks.

Maybe I just need to get used to plainer meals. I’ve just realised there’s a low carb boot camp here so might take a look as although I know the rules are basic I feel a bit overwhelmed

I'm on Week 12 of Michael Mosleys Fast 800 keto diet. I've lost 35lbs (my goal is 70lbs). It's a fab diet. I simply eat the recipes from the Fast 800 keto book.
I eat at 12.30pm and 6.45pm, no snacking. Then I fast from around 7pm to 12.20pm. Once you get past the first week it's fine!!

I'm on Second Nature and there's hundreds of recipes. It does recommend eating full fat, for example Greek yoghurt, but there is a massive difference in the fat % of various brands, so still plenty of variety and you can choose whichever one you like most.

Try the Fast 800 like PP by Michael Moseley. It replaces low fat products with full fat so you have lots of flavour in the recipes, portions are good size mostly but there is a big emphasis on eating half a plate of green veg with meals. I felt so healthy on it and very unbloated! It definitely didn’t seem overly rich.

Portion control is a great starting point to improve your eating habits. Instead of completely changing your diet, focus on reducing your portions and see if you can consistently maintain this habit. Without portion control, following any diet can be challenging. Once you feel confident in your ability to control your portions, you can plan for a more specific diet that suits your goals and preferences.
