How much would you be ready to pay for this takeaway menu (made by local that runs a small catering service from home):

(Feeds 3 or 4)

1.5 kg or 2kg full chicken - Moroccan olive chicken (looks like this: https://www.google.com/search?q=djaj+mhamar&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwiMqMeFz_79AhWbnCcCHc_zCTsQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq=djaj+mhamar&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQAzIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgQIABAeMgQIABAeMgQIABAeMgQIABAeMgQIABAeMgQIABAeMgQIABAeMgYIABAFEB46BggAEAgQHjoHCAAQgAQQGDoICAAQgAQQsQM6BwgAEIoFEEM6CggAEIoFELEDEENQ5gJY1xFgixJoAXAAeACAAYIBiAGJCJIBBDEwLjKYAQCgAQGqAQtnd3Mtd2l6LWltZ8ABAQ&sclient=img&ei=edwiZMyHMpu5nsEPz-en2AM&bih=824&biw=1600&rlz=1C5CHFA_enGB1017GB1017#imgrc=_4MCM00GUY3gOM)

Assortment of three Moroccan salads : One cooked carrot salad, one cooked aubergine salad and a cold Moroccan cucumber/tomato/onion salad.

12 vegetarian samosas

4 moroccan pancakes: https://www.google.com/search?q=mssemen&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjZmqSMz_79AhX_vicCHepJB1cQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq=mssemen&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQAzoFCAAQgAQ6BggAEAcQHjoECAAQHjoHCAAQigUQQzoICAAQgAQQsQM6BAgAEANQjQhY8A5g8g9oAHAAeACAAWyIAdYEkgEDNy4xmAEAoAEBqgELZ3dzLXdpei1pbWfAAQE&sclient=img&ei=h9wiZJm7OP_9nsEP6pOduAU&bih=824&biw=1600&rlz=1C5CHFA_enGB1017GB1017#imgrc=NrxuciuFwumwoM)

I would pay about £30.

MarchingBand · 28/03/2023 13:58

£30. I know a few places do a whole chicken dinner, seems like a fair price

chesirecat99 · 28/03/2023 14:01

I could get that delivered for £82 from a very fancy deli in Central London. A little bit more from a restaurant. The chicken would be larger than 1.5kg though. I think you need to offer at least a 2kg chicken for 4 people.

I guess £60 for a takeaway, rather than from a restaurant, outside of London seems more realistic.

I agree that it needs a carb side as well as salads - potatoes, couscous or rice.

No more than £40 including delivery.

Provide a more filling side (potatoes, cooked veg, rice) and maybe £35, if it was around here (NE England. Not affluent area). And I'd appreciate the option to have the chicken already carved/portioned(with a surcharge ofc).

Assuming (as it's a whole chicken being cooked) that one would need to preorder for it to be delivered in a timely fashion. Thus reducing wastage to you.

This is board is not for market research OP. You have already another thread running about your Moroccan food business. You should contact MNHQ to run surveys for you.

£65 assuming freshly cooked

I think it sounds lovely.

In restaurant, I'd expect to pay about £20 a head for a meal like that. Plus extra for drinks.

But for takeaway, I have a ceiling price that I'm prepared to pay. Mostly because food simply isn't as nice when its been wrapped and transported and because I have to do my own washing up! I wouldn't pay more than £40 for a takeaway, regardless of what it was, for our family of 4. And at the £40 mark, it would be a very occasional treat, given there's a range of takeaways we could get for our family in the £20-£30 bracket which we all enjoy.

I also think that one dish shared between all isn't great for families, where people like to choose their own dishes. Would work well for someone hosting who didn't want to cook, though.

Keha · 28/03/2023 14:57

If I get takeaway with friends it tends to be about £15 a head. I think though that £60 would be slightly too much for me because it's essentially a set menu/no choice which could lower the appeal to a group. I would probably aim for closer to £10 per head. I'd be happy with two salads but possibly more carb. Maybe offering some choices of sides or the option to pay for more sides? It does sound delicious!
