Renting what to expect

We are coming to the end of our rental agreement. It's unusual in that our insurance are paying the rent but we paid the deposit. I'm wondering about getting the deposit back. We have lived in the house for a year and have 3 kids and a dog. The entire house was painted with cheap white non washable paint . So there are some scuffs. Would it be expected that we repaint? Also the paving next to drive was loose when we moved in and has subsequently cracked. And a freezer draw has had part of the handle snap. Will we be expected to pay for these things? Can we do it ourselves? (we have renters accident cover) Or would they want to deduct from deposit? I'm reluctant to ask landlord as I don't want to imply the place is falling apart and we don't have paperwork as it was all done through insurance.

some Wear and tear is expected, so you shouldn’t have to repaint etc. I would replace the drawer myself to save arguing over it, you can also choose where you buy it (second hand on eBay). You may or may not be liable for the paving it depends if it was noted or if they even notice. It can come out the deposit or you can pay, if the deposit doesn’t cover the damage you have to pay the difference. The deposit return scheme can act as mediators.
you will have to clean the property prior to returning it, so you may find a quick roller with some white paint is easier and quicker than cleaning it - depending on size etc.

CIF is amazing for the stains it can remove, give that a try first. But yes, you're better off fixing things first, eg a quick coat of paint, etc especially if it's cheap paint to start with.

I spoke to one of the end of lease assessors and he said never accept paying full price for a replacement.l for anything. Always check on eBay what a second hand version would cost you and offer to pay that as nothing in the flat/house is new.
