The news about NOx

What does the ban on NOx mean for cream whippers? I've just recently asked for one for my birthday. And what about all the commercial users of cream whippers?

If you are black teenager hanging around in the evening it is illegal. If you are a white chef walking along the road no probs.

Nitric oxide is something else entirely. Nitrous oxide -NOx, Entonox, gas-and-air - is the gas used for light anaesthesia, cream whipping and, apparently, for boosting some vehicles. And for abuse: laughing gas.

Your use of NOx isn't correct and may be confusing some people.

The proposed ban is indeed on nitrous oxide - that is N2O. Not on NO/NO2 which are the NOx category (mainly known as pollutant by products of combustion).

I see. Thanks.

I assume it will work like the legislation does around knives. If you buy a couple of canisters and are taking it home to use in your machine then the police will let you go on your way. if they find you down the park with a bag full of the things then you have no legitimate reason for having them and will have them confiscated.

That's the current legislation - it's already banned for the purpose of recreational installation. I don't see the benefit of criminalising it further.

I hadn’t even thought about that aspect! Goodness!
and agree with pp, so ridiculous to ban this when what is actually needed IMO for young people is a functioning youth service and actual police on the actual street. Ffs.

@Brahumbug

I would too but my days of big bikes are over. I only had to commute to work in the past but now need to drive during work so not the best idea if I want to keep my licence.

picklemewalnuts · 29/03/2023 11:59

I thought it was about carrying it? You can get it delivered to your kitchen, but not carry a dozen in your pocket to the park.

Local elections in May. The only people that reliably vote in local elections are old people. Old people feel threatened by antisocial behaviour. The Conservatives want headlines that show they take these things seriously. It's actually a bonus for them when anyone sensibly points out how ridiculous the idea is as this plays to the thoughts of said old people that their concerns are being ignored.

I realise I'm hugely generalising about old people in this, but it's going to play very well to the Daily Express readers - and most of their readership buys the paper from beyond the grave.

Dinopawus · 29/03/2023 12:37

I'm oldish! Though unlikely to read the express/vote Tory.

I'll still be pissed off if I can't charge my cream jug.

My main issue with youngsters using NO is the litter, especially as we live rurally and I worry about wildlife and livestock. I also don't know about long term harms.

But seriously, a few teens getting giggly in a village car park isn't even on a long list of political priorities right now.

DogInATent · 29/03/2023 12:38

@Dinopawus but the important question is, how likely is it that you'll vote in the local elections in May regardless of who you vote for?

Dinopawus · 29/03/2023 15:36

True. I'd love to exercise my right to a democratic vote but the choice of local politicians here is dreadful. Red trousered & mad, Hippy and mad, or independent megalomaniac and mad.

And that before the Diblyesque village hall committee scrutinise my ID verrrryyyy slowly. Which I just know they will.
