What happens when you start eating better?

I am tired most of the time and feel especially terrible today. Have 2 young DC who can get up to all sorts of shenanigans in the night but my diet is horrendous and I need to do something about it.

I don’t want to feel or look like this anymore.

Please inspire me with how eating better makes you feel better! What changes big or small do you notice?

Thank you everyone for your lovely replies. I have got myself a nice new journal and will write down all the suggestions there (I feel like if I write something out by hand I’m more likely to remember it and follow it…hopefully!)

My biggest downfall is the sweet stuff. It’s like I have to have something chocolatey every day otherwise I feel like my day isn’t complete. I have really disordered thinking around food. All my rewards in life are food based. There have been days where I have eaten healthily and then I feel like I need to reward myself with a chocolate bar or a slice of cake! It is really terrible and just shows how messed up my thinking is.

But I don’t want to be like this anymore.

Thank you for the recommendation about focusing on one meal at a time. I actually love porridge but have noticed the last couple of times I’ve eaten it, that it gives me an upset stomach within minutes. I would also gladly eat eggs every day for breakfast but have limited it to 2-3 times a week because I’ve been told by so many people that eggs every day is a bad thing? Would love to be corrected on this.

If I limit the white carbs like pasta, potatoes, bread etc what are the best things to replace it with? Chicken, fish?

Don't beat yourself up about wanting chocolate or cake every day. Sugar highly addictive! It's a physical reaction too.

@Elopelo I think current thinking that about 3 eggs a week is what's healthy.

OP I had the exact same issues as you were biscuits - every afternoon at work I would need a biscuit! And then due to the sugar rush/crash I'd need another one half an hour later! Vicious circle.

I gave up pasta, rice, bread and biscuits etc last May and am now 3st lighter. I discovered PBFit (powdered low fat peanut butter you mix with water) and have 2tbs of that with an apple mid morning and a banana mid afternoon. Stopped me feeling hungry, and after about 5 months I found I wasn't as tolerant of sugary stuff - felt overly full after a little bit of anything sugary. I don't get cravings any more. I think if you stick to it long enough the body adapts and reaches a new (healthier) equilibrium.
