Very confused. When do / did the clocks go back?!

I have a friend that's abroad at the moment. Her clock hasn't changed on her phone is she's also a few hours ahead. In conversation earlier I said how lovely it was here in the UK to have a lighter evening, and she's confused as she said the clocks haven't changed yet.

Now I'm fully confused. Did they change early hours of this morning (Sunday) or is it tonight they change?!

Last night

prawnring · 26/03/2023 22:34

Different counties do different things. Here on the UK they changed last night.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 26/03/2023 22:34

You're correct, they changed at 2am this morning.

happinessischocolate · 26/03/2023 22:34

It was this morning, but they don't get changed all round the world 😂

Snorlaxing · 26/03/2023 22:34

I think that the US changed theirs a couple of weeks ago and some countries haven't changed yet.

prawnring · 26/03/2023 22:34

The US changed on March 12th

Slimjimtobe · 26/03/2023 22:35

They changed at 2am

BeckyBeehive · 26/03/2023 22:35

Last night, and the clocks went forwards not back!

MoongazyHare · 26/03/2023 22:36

Countries decide independently whether or not they will adopt daylight saving measures, and when they apply them. Not everywhere does it, and not all at the same time. As others have said, in the UK, the change took place at 2am this morning.

Boomboom22 · 26/03/2023 22:36

Didn't Europe get rid of clock changes a few years ago or did I dream that?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 26/03/2023 22:37

Yes, should have said that's assuming you're in the UK. I think most of Europe went forward today too. Most of the US changed on Sunday 12th March. I'm not sure about the rest of the world.

tortoishelll · 26/03/2023 22:37

Yes - I'm in the UK, she's in Poland. She's very confused 🤣

Apologies - I meant forwards not backwards!

I read something about that. Not sure if it actually happened tho

dementedpixie · 26/03/2023 22:48

In the UK the clocks went forward in the early hours of this morning at 1am, which then became 2am.

In October they go back at 2am which then becomes 1am

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 26/03/2023 22:53

As above it was overnight last night so today has been an hour ahead.

I get confused with the different time zones too, I work with a lot of people in the US and the last 2 weeks all my recurrent meetings with them have shifted to an hour earlier in my calendar causing lots of double bookings where I had a US meeting next to a U.K. one because their clocks went forward on 12th.

My whole life I have thought they changed at 2am regardless😂. I was still up at 1am this morning and they changes fo 2am. I guess when I would have been clubbing back in the day then our phones wouldn't have automatically changed and perhaps I've been asleep in recent years at that time!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/03/2023 23:12

OMG I totally forgot about that. 😮😮😮😮

They voted in 2018 to get rid of the clock change in 2020. I was first excited (as I hate it with a passion, takes me weeks to adjust) then depressed as I realised we’d have left the EU so it wouldn’t apply to
UK. Then covid happened and it just seemed to get forgotten. Whether they’re still planning it or not I don’t know.

Pythonesque · 26/03/2023 23:30

And then if you're dealing with the southern hemisphere their clocks go back around the time ours go forwards and vice versa. We're always aware of this with parents in Australia; so in our winter they are 11 hours ahead of us, we've just had a couple of weeks of 10 hours, and from today it's 9 hours. Shifts the best windows for phonecalls significantly!

The whole Europe changes at the same time as far as I know. Clocks in the Czech republic did change at night Saturday-Sunday.

TookTheBook · 26/03/2023 23:37

Your friend is confused OP. The time in Poland is currently an hour ahead of the UK. Summer time all over Europe.

Costacoffeeplease · 27/03/2023 00:17

Except in Portugal which remains on U.K. time all year, currently.

Discwriter · 27/03/2023 00:20

I feel the clocks changing wasn't very well advertised this year! This and smartphones meant I only realised this evening why my kids were only up at 8am this morning!

Iflyaway · 27/03/2023 00:31

The clocks went forward in Europe too. CET - Central European Time.

Portugal time is 1 hours behind CET

A friend taught me a great saying cos I was always confused when it went back or forward.....

Spring forward, Fall back.
