At wit's end with poo in bath

18 month old DS has gone from occasionally pooing in the bath to weekly to now pretty much every second day. It's driving me crazy.

Any tips on how to stop it happening (probably not possible) or practical advice for dealing with it?

I'm now good at noticing the signs so I can get them out quickly (especially eldest DS, innocent victim in all this!) But then I have to call DH to hold DS2 up while I wash and rinse him, which he hates and makes him scream.

Then I spend the little downtime I usually have in the evening cleaning and miltoning the tub and bath toys. Happy days!

Also concerned with how much is going down the drain, not only is it gross but isn't it going to cause a blockage or something at some point? I try to fish out what I can but sometimes it's not possible.

Oh the fun we have.

@caringcarer we are talking about children, your language is pretty harsh.

@threeplusmum you are off your head.

what, cos she’s using the word shit rather than poo?? Big deal

TTCAbroad · 27/03/2023 04:35

DD did this on occasion and randomly it increased in frequency around 15ish months. She’s now 16ish months and what helped was basically talking a lot about poop 😑 So during the day she’d poop (in her diaper) and I’d ask if she had pooped, then say ‘you pooped’ as I changed her diaper. After about a week I’d ask her if she was pooping while it was happening (luckily she has a very obvious poop face). Finally, after about two weeks she can recognise before it happens. During the day that just means she’ll go in her diaper, but then tell me and go and sit on her changing pad. BUT… during baths, before the incident occurs, she will pat her lower belly and say ‘poo poo’. Cue speedy evacuation from bath.

Something to maybe work on in tandem with the many other excellent suggestions.

May your evenings soon be less shitty.

You need to just shower him with one of those hose attachments.

Tell him he can have a big boy bath when he controls himself like brother does.

Have you ever had an 18 month old 😂

ChocSaltyBalls · 27/03/2023 16:25

Oh god I remember my youngest was a pain for this. He’d shite in the bath and then try and drink the bath water whilst we had to scoop him and his brother out. I used to try and grab it and throw it down the loo rather than the drain.

he just grew out of it

demotedreally · 27/03/2023 16:30

My kids always used to poo in the bath when dh was in there. I did 6/7 and they never did it for me.

What a happy memory 😂😂

MegaClutterSlut · 27/03/2023 17:10

My ds only done it the once thank god at around the same age. It freaked him out when it started to float towards him. He was literally trying to climb my arms like a cat does trying to get away from it 😂

OMG, that reminded me when DD did this when we stayed at my PIL. Bless her, she had constipation so it was good but still. Luckily MIL didn't blink, even cleaned the bath.

I would shower and put him in a swim nappy for bath fun time. When you see signs, immediately on the potty.

My 3 eldest children are now 45, 42 and 40 and the mystery of who pooped in the bath at nana’s decades ago is still a mystery and discussed in great detail every New Year.

TitoMojito · 27/03/2023 18:14

Tonight DS managed to grab a solid bit and brandish it at me whilst squeezing it in his fingers. I think that was it, the final straw.

nooooOOOO 😂😂

faffadoodledo · 27/03/2023 18:25

Oh god. Reminds me of most embarrassing parenting moment. When DS pooped in a hot tub. Quarter of a century has passed. But not the shame....

BathIssues · 27/03/2023 21:14

No poo in the bath tonight, yeepee! Of course, now I was prepared and his sibling wasn't in the tub with him, he thought "what's the point?".😅

He actually just happened to have a poo an hour before bathtime so think we just got lucky. Let's see what tomorrow brings!

My first went through a phase of doing this and we both got good at catching the turds and tossing them in the loo. I'm still furious that I never managed to get a picture of my husband with a poo cupped in his hands. Parenting classic.

Oh goodness this reminds me of when Ds was little and he pooped in the bath and it was red and turned the water red and dh and I were so worried and it turned out- after some detective work- he’d eaten half a red crayon. 🙄😆 I spent ages scrubbing the bath.

Do you think maybe they’re constipated? The warm water might be helping them to go perhaps?

I’m sorry but this made me laugh out loud.
