To medicate ADHD or not?

My son age 6 has been diagnosed with ADHD, he is very full on 24/7, he is also autistic, he struggles to maintain concentration for longer than a few minutes and often lashes out, hits, screams and it can be incredibly difficult to cool him down. He is behind for his age because he cant sit still long enough to focus on any school work, he can be medicated but we were warned side effects can be unpleasant so what I'm asking is if anybody in same situation did they choose to medicate and did it help or were the side effects to much etc? Thanks in advance 😥

Ds was diagnosed and medicated 3 years ago.

Best decision we made. He's thriving in school and has loads of friends but before meds he didn't have that and hated himself.

I'm always surprised when people say they wouldn't Medicate, you wouldn't not take antibiotics, anti depressants, the pill, etc.

I would try it in a heartbeat.

it doesn’t hang around in the system, if it doesn’t suit - stop and try the next alternative, see what you think, stop, start- try in a few months. Simple as!

it’s not addictive as prescribed to children, no problems to take during the week or try days off.

it’s a game changer.

my DS is 16 now. The first day he had it aged 8 he went to school and when he came out his teacher came out and she was in tears because he’d written a whole side of A4 in English that was years ahead of what he’d been able to do previously- just a couple of sentences. I have a picture of it and a post on Facebook that comes up every year and makes me cry every time.

why wouldn’t you try this? If it doesn’t work you’ll know it doesn’t work - it won’t mean the sky falls…
