Driving to Addenbrookes

I have an interview coming up. The whole site looks nightmarish would you drive? Or are the P&R reliable?

It's fine, big but not much traffic, there is a huge multi story by the main hospital which is expensive though.

hexsnidgett · 26/03/2023 17:48

Oh. That's reassuring, thank you.
I have been for a nosy today and it wasn't busy, but so many roundabouts and multiple lanes, I thought it must be hellish on a week day.

I would do Babraham Park and ride

Addenbrookes is a massive site and it has more than one multistory. The first one you logically come to gets very, very busy indeed so if you opt for that one, allow yourself plenty of time. There's another massive one near the new Papworth hospital, and that one is better, but it's quite a walk to the main hospital building from there so again, leave plenty of time.

Expect Cambridge traffic to be horrendous as well, and the parking at Addenbrookes is seriously pricy.

Good luck!

Been in the week many a time and always like a ghost town, never done in rush hour though.

SamMil · 26/03/2023 18:00

Depends on the time of your interview - definitely allow some extra time if during commuting hours!

The multi story is really easy to get to but can be busy so on a bad day you might be driving around for a while looking for a space. Maybe aim to get there early & then grab a coffee or something in the hospital.

hexsnidgett · 26/03/2023 18:11

Yes. Cambridge traffic always a nightmare, plenty of time will be left.
So long as a space is pretty much guaranteed to be found, I think I will risk it. It's such an advantage to have a flask of coffee, a warm coat and a quick getaway.
Obviously if I get lucky I won't be driving every day!

Where are you coming from? And what time is the interview?

There really are a lot of buses that go there, and it's also fairly near the train station, and park and rides, so public transport is definitely an option too. Lots of places to sit in and have coffee if you get there early.

Spanielsarepainless · 26/03/2023 18:30

My parents go several times a year and always use the P&R. Cambridge traffic is grim.

Anyfeckinusername · 26/03/2023 18:43

It's fine to get in and out of.
There are two car parks. Look up what building you are in and pick your car park. Even if you "get it wrong" it's not the end of the world, most of the medical buildings connect so you won't be traipsing along outdoors massively (both car parks are separate from the building).

Good luck!

You could even walk from either Babraham or Trumpington P&R if you didn't fancy the bus for whatever reason. But the buses should be fine. You can get apps that show the bus times. I'd still aim to get there incredibly early because there are always random days when something happens.

Bus from Madingley P&R too - not the P&R bus, but the U bus, which goes straight from outside the park and ride all the way to addenbrooke's without going through the city centre, either.
