High rise bed ladder by window

Dd 9 has a high rise bed, she wants to move bed. But ladder will be right next to the window and dh worried about her falling against window and through it. I think it's fine, she won't fall and window ledge and window will be strong enough if she does. Opinions?

Well the obvious question is - is it a single pane window or double glazing?

Mynameisntrelevant · 26/03/2023 15:53

@SchoolTripDrama sorry should have added - double glazed.

I think she'll be fine. Unless the double glazing is super old

Mynameisntrelevant · 26/03/2023 15:56

@SchoolTripDrama nope it's about 5 years old. Thanks me too. Dh being super cautious I think. I think he's worried she'll stand on window ledge too.

I'd assess the curtains/blinds for any cords/fabric that your DD could get tangled in if she was to fall (strangulation hazard). Are safety blinds installed (if relevant)?

Poppins2016 · 26/03/2023 15:59

How likely is your DD to use the ladder with the window open? I'd be concerned about the possibility of a freak accident if she lost her footing. Could you add some sort of guard/grab rail?

Mynameisntrelevant · 26/03/2023 16:00

@Poppins2016 normal curtains. No cords.

You could fit window safety bars or a safety grill if he’s concerned.

I personally wouldn't. I wouldn't want her potentially opening it and kind of leaning out to see or hear what she might want to wither. Wouldn't it make the room dark l if it's blocking some of the window?

minford · 26/03/2023 17:46

*either

Depends on the kid, my dd1 would have been fine at that age, dd2 would have been out the window. Mine open out like a door though too, depends on the type of hinges on the window. If it's just a top opening smaller window for example, non issue

DD (8) has her high sleeper with the ladder next to the window. I wasn't worried but DH was so we compromised by locking the window so she can't open it. She's been in it for about 2 years now and never had an issue.

Unless you have air conditioning then I wouldn’t like it either, presumably the window is kept open when it’s hot over the summer?
