Is it the case that year 11s Iin Wales and Scotland are being given advance information about the GCSE exam content and this is not happening in English schools?

I’m a secondary school teacher in England and have heard nothing of this. I strongly suspect it’s a myth.

Schools in Scotland don't do GCSE's unless they are private schools.

Can't be true, there would be uproar. And I felt that DD is being guided towards what to specifically revise as the teachers have a general idea of what will be covered

100% this. GCSE content to a s4/5/6 pupil in Scotland is pretty useless.

My eldest is in s5 and hasn't been given any heads up as to what will be in any of his exams.

In Wales here. Hubs teaches SEN in local secondary. Pissed himself laughing at the suggestion. So nope, not true!

All teachers know the broad content of GCSEs and spend 2 years teaching to the syllabus and training children to answer the questions. They are pretty ‘known’ exams. You can buy revision guides. No-ones releasing any papers.

The WJEC website shows differently - a dance info being given
https://www.wjec.co.uk/articles/advance-information-for-summer-2023-examinations/

From that link: “Please note, there is no Advance Information for:
Eduqas GCSEs, AS and A levels regulated by Ofqual and designated for use in Wales by Qualifications Wales.
all our vocational qualifications regulated by Ofqual.”

If there’s advance information for a a particular qualification this year, it’ll be because there’s advance information for that qualification every year.
