Have you ever been in a hot air balloon?

And if so, would you recommend it? Any hints or tips?

This is really not something I would ever do. I'm quite wary of heights since hitting middle age, for a start. But life feels so dull and miserable at the moment, and I am trying to think of things I can do that I would look forward to. This idea of a hot air balloon ride just popped in to my head and now it won't go.

I'd probably buy two tickets, treat DP and keep it a complete surprise.

Yes, but I was in the 'basket' with a problematic person in my life, so I was more disturbed by him than by the height.
I recall seeing cows shagging; and going low over a quarry.

I did it about 20 years ago. It left from somewhere in Berkshire on a beautiful spring morning. It was amazing. I loved it. The best part was when we were quite close to the ground fling over fields and we saw rabbits hopping around underneath us. Because it's so quiet they aren't frightened off.
I'd love to do it again.

Yes, I did it once in the Loire Valley with DS. I LOVED it. But I am fine with heights. We saw chateaux and baby wild boars frolicking around a lake. I think DS was a bit scared. he clung to the edge of the basket a bit but it's up to chest height - you couldn't fall out.

getting in was the scariest bit. they lay the basket in its side and you climb in and 'lie' flat as they tip you up to standing point.

i would recommend it if you aren't afraid of heights. If you are looking for things to look forward to, for the same price as two balloon rides you could book tickets to a theatre show and a music or comedy gig - that would give you two things to look forward to.

Ugh the thought of it makes me sweat but can see why it would appeal to people who don't mind heights.

Great to hear you did it and enjoyed it. What's next? Have you tried a Go Ape?
