Which is better? Footboard or open ended bed.

Am I better getting my child (3 year old) a single bed with a “footboard” or open at the end? I was thinking the footboard would stop her covers slipping off the bed, but from a practical point of view, an open end would make it easier to make the bed each day as I wouldn’t have to tuck it all in every day and can just drape the covers over the bed. Am I overthinking this? What would you go for? (photos attached of the two bed frames I’m deciding between).

Footboard is good for keeping teddies in.

Footboard, you may have to spend a few minutes each day tucking in, but it's preferable to getting up in the night to retrieve a duvet that's fallen off a footboard less bed.

For kids i'd go without the end.

My kids always seem to fling themselves about a lot and i can see bumped heads and arms happening with one.

For me - i like a foot board. For looks and so i can tuck my side of the duvet in!

I have one of each type for my children. The one with the footboard in far easier to keep nice and tidy and, as a previous poster said, it keeps the teddies in check.

I like to dangle my feet over the end, so without for me!

Why in gods name would you spend time tucking a duvet into a foot board? Just a very quick straighten of the duvet, if you must, is fine!

balconylife · 25/03/2023 17:30

Without. Feet have room to dangle and we can sit on the end of the bed to put socks on etc. I also agree with @Laiste about the knocks and bumps from a footboard.

DivineAffliction · 25/03/2023 17:33

Open-ended.

"make the bed"????? use fitted sheets and a duvet. nothing to tuck in.

TheNoodlesIncident · 25/03/2023 17:47

I know this is your child's bed so slightly different, but we used to have a bed with a footboard and it was so annoying! It's not as easy to straighten the duvet and it also means you can't sit on the end of the bed, only on the side.

We replaced ours with a headboard only version and got a bigger size duvet (so a king size on a double bed). If you buy a double duvet it'll stay on the bed no problem, especially if one side is against a wall.

QuintanaRoo · 25/03/2023 17:49

Without for sure, less for them to bang their heads on when they’re bed bounc8ng.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/03/2023 17:51

Open ended. The cute 5 year old I bought the bed for is now 6'2" (and 14 years old).

Aphrathestorm · 25/03/2023 17:52

Tucking in? What is this you speak of?

I like a bed with a rail at the end for putting clothes on!

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 25/03/2023 18:03

I prefer a bed without a footboard. Who tucks a duvet in? Even if I use a flat sheet (tucked in) instead of a duvet cover, my duvet is never tucked in. You can't sufficiently tuck the duvet around you to stop draughts.
