Was this a night (day) terror?

Dd (2.5) was at the doctors yesterday with suspected tonsillitis and got antibiotics. She's been spiking temperatures and just generally out of sorts. Today she had a nap on the sofa. She woke up screaming, extremely distressed and began crawling towards me. I reached out thinking she wanted a hug but she began to hit/scratch my face whilst screaming. I'm doing my best to reassure her but she's going berserk. I hold her close to me but she's still trying to lash out so I placed her on the ground and she kept climbing back on the sofa to scratch my face. This goes on for about 5 minutes then she just lies down for a cuddle. She did go though a phase of tantrums a few months ago but it was always in response to something. This was completely out of the blue. She had paracetamol before her nap so no temp, but she's obviously off colour still. Could this episode have been a night terror? She seemed completely awake during it but it was disconcerting how angry she was.

When my son was the same age, he had night terrors, they were scary, like he was still asleep but with wide awake staring eyes. Sounds similar, hope she gets better soon.

Quite possibly. Illness can have very odd side effects.

This happens to my daughter when she's ill or overtired, definitely night terror kind of thing. Hopefully just a one off

Thank you for the replies everyone, I feel a lot more reassured now. She had another outburst a few hours ago after I tried to give her antibiotics, scratching/hitting etc so she's definitely out of sorts. Fingers crossed she'll be back to herself soon!

Almost certainly a night terror. They are horrendous to witness but the child doesn't remember them. My DDs first one we ended up in a&e became I thought she was having a seizure.
