Laser Eye Surgery- where to start!

I’m located in East Anglia.

I’ve thought for years about this, I’m nearly 40 and wear glasses all
the time. Vision is something like +2.5/2.75.

Im such an active person and my glasses really annoy me sometimes. I wear contacts (daily’s) when I fancy it.

Can anyone recommend a place? I don’t know where to start.

Optegra. I went to an open evening to find out more about it. There was no pressure at all to book a free consultation. I went to the consultation and there was no pressure to book the operation.

The hospital was absolutely spotless - as you would expect.

I didn’t experience any pain and barely any discomfort. Took two days off work (day of the operation and the day after ) but that was only because I had a follow up appt for the day after the op. I felt fine and could have gone back to work the day after the op.

The price included about 3 follow up appts to make sure all was well.

The worse bit for me was when they put a clamp on your eyes to hold your eyelids open so they could do the actual work with the laser - but hard to use the laser when the patient has their eyes shut!

The bit with the laser didn’t hurt at all but you really don’t want to think about what the surgeon is doing.

Five years on, I’m still very pleased I did it, just wish I’d done it years earlier.

We used optical express for refractive lens replacement. Very impressed with service from start to finish, and interest free credit over 3 years was good option.

Go somewhere proper. I used optical express and was pleased initially. After a couple of years my eyes were deteriorating and now I’m back in glasses full time. Had them done when I was 30

Optical express told us that laser surgery can still end up with sight deteriorating over time, whereas refractive lens replacement is an artificial lens (same surgery as cataract) so you don't get the same problems with potentially needing to get it done again. I'm not sure it's as simple as go somewhere proper, as the surgeon also did NHS & other private practice.

Thanks- I’ve done a bit of research today.
seem to be various options.. price also seems to vary hugely.

They told me that eventually due to old age I might need reading glasses - they didn’t tell me that there’s a chance that not 3 years after the surgery it could fail and I’d need glasses full time again. Lens replacement wasn’t offered as an option - only LASEK and LASIK. So I guess my advice would be different then - do a ton of research about what the best option is for your eyes and question absolutely everything. Lens replacement sounds pretty good but my experience with traditional laser treatment was bad. Expensive, a massive ballache for follow up treatment, side effects that still affect me now. My current optician says he’s seen quite a lot of people in my situation.

and by go somewhere proper I could have gone to moorfields but OE was cheaper. Maybe I would have been given a more truthful picture somewhere else. You won’t find bad reviews on their SM though because I got deleted and blocked for posting mine
