£57,000,000

You get the win confirmed and 100% assurance that the money will be in your bank next Friday (no idea how long it takes to be honest, but go with it).

How do you spend this next week, including Friday when the money hits? Ignoring the fact you have to go to Camelot or wherever for all that faff...

I’d still go to work, and spend the rest of the week Googling houses and cruises.

Brightstar84 · 24/03/2023 21:19

Highly likely I’d call in sick from work, check myself in to somewhere luxurious and relax so I could start to plan with a clear head.

PaigeMatthews · 24/03/2023 21:19

Same as others on here.

book holidays abroad for every school holiday, including lapland at Christmas.
get tutors for dd in english maths and spanish.
buy new car for dh as his is disgusting. A 7 seater so the new dog dh doesn't want has a seat too
hand my notice in and start my own business.
Id like to do the build houses thing a pp said too. For family too.
quit work and drive my dd to school everyday

And pay my council tax bill.

poundshoptealights · 24/03/2023 21:22

That's an extraordinary amount of money. A lot of the lists already given wouldn't even touch the sides.

I would spend the week as normal because I would be unable to believe it was real until it hit my actual (new, presumably Coutts) bank account. In the meantime, I would be making lists of what I want to spend it on whilst also trying to get my head around it.

The list would include a big helping hand to my whole extended family, including cousins I haven't seen forever, and everyone's children. All mortgages paid off. There isn't much money in the family at all so that alone would make a big difference to people.

Then I would buy lovely properties for my immediate family. If they want it, private school for my niece and nephew. Better homes, or home help for my parents, who are getting older. I would also set my parents and siblings up with pensions/invested money to make an income over time.

I would take them all out to a lovely hotel and get a private dining room, then tell them over dinner.

For me, I would buy a lovely house and better car. I would quietly resign from my current job, invest in career development and decide my next move in my own good time. I might take some time out to write. I would get the pets I would like to have. I would plan some lovely parties and holidays for family and friends. I would also sensibly invest in a personal pension / for income.

I've probably spent it now...!

Start house hunting somewhere coastal, remote and northern, preferably already done up and with furniture, paying cash to move asap. Hand notice in at work and negotiate my leave in return for notice not being worked. Pack car, grab cats and leave - pushing keys and phone through letter box! Tell absolutely no one.

I can dream…

Fuck negotiating your notice period. You are now worth £50M+ Grin

imjustanerd · 24/03/2023 21:24

First thing I would do is get flights booked to see my sister and her family in the states who I haven't seen in a couple of years.

Id take all of us to Disney, spoil all the kids and then sort out all my family financially.

Once my family were sorted I'd buy a big house near the sea and travel.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 24/03/2023 21:26

Strange that my idea is also around housing.

Proves that housing is a big issue across the UK and across social groups unless very comfortable

quietnightmare · 24/03/2023 21:28

I would....

Ask my parents and in laws how much they need to live a good life and give it to them

Pay the mortgage off I wouldn't bother moving

Do up the house to what we wanted

Hire a housekeeper

Children straight to private schools

Let the children do whatever activities they wanted

Me and the husband just work two days a week until the children are at university/working

Buy a holiday home and aim to spend all the school holidays there and once the children are at university/working move abroad so they can visit in the uni holidays, come for weekends, any annual leave

Ski twice a year

quietnightmare · 24/03/2023 21:30

Just realised you meant in the first week

Swop the children's school

Book a holiday

Go to the shard spend a ridiculous amount on food and champagne

Put my notice in for part time

Probably just be really drunk and happy for the week

nomeslice · 24/03/2023 21:30

I'd be hiring a full time housekeeper and nanny. Oh and a professional declutterer. I'd have to carry on at work for a bit, 6 months or so. But would enjoy my life so much more without the domestic load. Then I'd be getting lots and lots of advice before getting too spendy...

Mrsjayy · 24/03/2023 21:33

I don't work but dh would dump all his work stuff and tools at his companies door whilst sticking 2 fingers up at them!

MaryKateDanaher · 24/03/2023 21:35

Short term, buy a very good bottle of wine. Then on Friday when the money hits my account, instruct my solicitor friend to buy a house for me and DD. Tell my best friends that I'll be funding them to have a year off work. Then I'd hand my notice in, and fully proposition my hot single boss.

Crucible · 24/03/2023 21:36

I'd give two dog charities I love (they're small and very very hardworking) a huge lump sum each. I'd sort out the chaos that is the finances of immediate family members. Go for a long long sleep, one with less worry.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 24/03/2023 21:38

I'd definitely have a lot of cosmetic dentistry - I have really poor teeth

Would have own pool and swim everyday

Onlyhereforchaletschool · 24/03/2023 21:38

I’d buy a designer handbag tomorrow and book a holiday. Next week I’d go into work and try and negotiate my notice period!

Houseyvibe · 24/03/2023 21:38

I wouldn’t do anything. I would carry on with my work as normal. Send the kids to school as normal and speak to my financial advisor. I would eventually think about moving and probs book a holiday for May half term but there’s not a lot I would want I don’t have already

Snowontheblow · 24/03/2023 21:39

Well I wouldn't believe it! But when I was sure, I'd leave work. Absolutely. As would dh (if I tell him!) And I think I'd go somewhere warm and quiet for a couple of weeks to reflect. Actually I wouldn't, as dc still have exams. Pay for a lot of tutors maybe!

123wentaway · 24/03/2023 21:40

Draw up a list of all my favourite charities to donate to.
Tell DC to start looking at houses.
Look at greenhouses. I want one the same as Monty Don’s.

Houseyvibe · 24/03/2023 21:43

I wouldn’t tell anyone either, I wouldn’t be buying massive houses or giving hand outs to friends or family. I would however, set up a foundation to distribute Grants to causes I feel are worthy.

Good for him, I kind of want you to win over me now 😂

I still want me to win, but I’d give @Mrsjayy enough that her DH can still quit his job 😁

Thank goodness winning is down to luck and not smarts or I'd never have a chance! 🤣

Always4Brenner · 24/03/2023 21:47

As long as it keeps me for life without ever needing disability payments ever again I’d wait for the moment I can phone dwp pay them their crappy £74 debt their mistake by the way not mine and to tell them to shove up their arse.

snowbellsxox · 24/03/2023 21:52

Pay off rest of mortgage straight away. Book a holiday, buy a new bigger house. New car ours is on its last legs is very old.
Shopping with my family and treat my family and friends.
I would also donate to my sons reception class for resources and extra staff to help out :)

snowbellsxox · 24/03/2023 21:54

To be honest if I won that amount, I would try have as much impact on so many peoples lives in my area as I could. Not sure what my idea would be but I live in Bradford, definitely something for the children & young teens
