I apologise in advance as I can't do links - gov.uk has been forwarding schools warni gs of a trend on tiktok that April 24th is being labelled "National rape day".

Whilst we would all hope this would be ignored by all as a horrendous notion, unfortunately there are many risks this raises, in addition to the daily risks to safety women and girls face.

Please be aware of this - I'm sure there is a lot more information regarding tjis onli e, and you may wish to contact your child's school to ask if they are making parents aware or addressing concerns in assemblies etc with pupils.

This has been a thing since 2021. It’s a non event. I’ve seen no evidence of gov.uk sending things to schools? My understanding was that this was one of those awful internet rumours that gained urban myth status. Nobody out there seriously believes they’d be exempt from repercussions for sexually assaulting someone just because it’s April 24th…

Surplus2requirements · 25/03/2023 10:51

This appears to be another of those weird SM things that warn about something that doesn't exist and the warnings themselves go viral which risks encouraging the thing being warned about.

Anyone remember the murder clowns 10-12 years ago?

Scared one of my kids stupid and people started actually dressing up as clowns to freak people out.

SolitudeNotLoneliness · 25/03/2023 11:52

The gov. Uk has been shared / sent out to our schools.

However, whilst I am not saying peopke are necc stupid enough to believe it would be legal, I am highlighting it may be used as an excuse by some disingenuous individuals (esp given assaults reported in high schools at the moment, mixed sex toilet incident bei g one example) to blur or push boundaries.

However, if it is irrelevant then so be it.

The thing is there is no actual evidence that any 'rape day' has been posted anywhere. Only warnings about it that started as a hoax and have gone viral.

The warnings only help to make it a thing.

The clown thing was exactly the same. Hoax reports of clowns attacking children which led to people thinking it was funny to dress as clowns and scaring children which generated actual news reports lending the original hoax credibility.

It properly freaked my son out and it was all caused by the warnings.

Exactly this. Fear mongering is the real issue here. Not internet hoaxes.

DedicatedFollowerOfFashion84 · 25/03/2023 12:53

Also, I can’t see anything on gov.uk regarding this…

Yesthatismychildsigh · 25/03/2023 12:56

Why do people spread these things as fact when a quick google will show it’s not true? Why also claim as fact that warnings have been sent to schools when this is not true? One has to wonder about the intentions of the OP here.

Then I guess you can provide proof of that? Actual proof and not rumours.

SunshineGeorgie · 25/03/2023 13:13

Can't see anything on gov.U.K. Either??

Op??

Tomkirkman · 25/03/2023 13:21

It’s not been sent to my kids schools or university.

Nothing communicated at all.

As pps said, there’s no proof that someone actually tried to suggest April 24th is rape day.

It came about by people lying. Saying they had heard about and doing videos to ‘warn’ people. This is entirely for attention and views. Happens all the time.

We get one going around every Christmas how someone found a wallet. The wallet happened to belong to someone not white. The person who found the wallet sees their address on driving license and returns the wallet. The wallet owner thanks them for their kindness and in return warns them that a local shopping centre should be avoided in Christmas Eve. The heavy implication that it will be bombed. This has never happened. But people get attention by saying they heard it. Now it’s treated as though it’s true. It’s entirely made up. And this one is also racist.

Do you remember at the beginning of the pandemic hundreds of people had a brother/cousin/nephew who had a friend who worked in the military and told them there were about to implement martial law? And doing it within minutes? Same thing.

But by giving these things attention and claiming someone has declared it Rape day, you are giving them more credibility.

meatballsoup · 25/03/2023 13:54

The only place this is a thing is in social media particularly 'mum' groups. Also see momo & cat litter trays in schools. Posted by the type of people who copy and paste the ' changed your fb settings by such & such date so they can't steal your data. I'm looking at you aunty Linda🙄

Pandyluna · 25/03/2023 13:57

What even do you mean “gov.uk” has been sending..the government’s website has been taking it upon itself to send things to your school? Bonkers

Bikeybikeface · 25/03/2023 14:05

Stupid rumour that my dd came home from school telling me about. I told her it’s ridiculous and just to ignore the boys who are talking about it. It doesn’t need a gov warning to schools (if there even is one)

Yesthatismychildsigh · 25/03/2023 14:18

@mnhq I’ve reported this misinformation to you twice, at best, it could cause panic to someone as gullible (and I’m being generous with that description) as the OP seems to be, at worst the OP is deliberately trying to cause fear, especially by making factually incorrect claims. This really needs taking down and the OP checked out.

If the OP is genuine then it might actually be helpful that the replies stand.

If nothing else as a reminder to the far too many people that believe whatever they read on social media without taking a moment to check it.

Fair point, but maybe @mnhq could change the title to make it obvious it’s all crap as it’s misleading. And Lincoln was obviously a very wise man 😂😉

No, seems to be every day you can get away with it. You don’t have to wait until April
