How much do you pay your cleaner?

Mine has just put her prices up to £17 an hour. Which is more than I get paid and I've been a nurse for almost 20 years! Ive been overlooking the fact that she doesn't do the full two hours. But I can't anymore. It's a shame as she's trustworthy and reliable. But it's time to find someone else I think.

£30 for two hours here. She often doesn't do the whole time but gets it done nevertheless.

Whadda · 23/03/2023 22:35

£20/hr.

What you get paid as a nurse isn’t relevant as a self-employed cleaner has more costs.

Newpuppymummy · 23/03/2023 22:37

£10 an hour. Assuming yours has gone from £15 to £17. Mine is good so I’d be happy to pay £2 more an hour to keep her

HoranTheHawk · 23/03/2023 22:38

£20 an hour for an essentially unskilled job sounds like a lot to me.

catchthedog · 23/03/2023 22:38

she charges 10 an hour but we give 11.50

Chowtime · 23/03/2023 22:38

£20 an hour here - self employed cleaners very different to employed nurses as they don't get paid for travel between clients/pension/holiday/sick pay/ etc.

CatchThatCat · 23/03/2023 22:40

Ours charges £10/ hour but I’ll often give more eg an extra £5 for fuel each visit

Hollyhocksandlarkspur · 23/03/2023 22:48

£15 per hour

massifcentral · 23/03/2023 22:52

Also £15 p/h. Until last year it was £13 p/h.

If she were more reliable about timing it would be more.

Redglitter · 23/03/2023 22:53

£15 PH. Don't think I'd pay more than that

illiterato · 23/03/2023 22:55

17 ph. I provide the cleaning stuff if that makes a difference. She’s v reliable and does the full time.

Flanjango · 23/03/2023 23:02

I don't have one but I would say £15-17 sounds fine. For those that pay £10 I'm stunned. I charged that 25 years ago when I did it.

Widowtoaworkaholic · 23/03/2023 23:04

£12 per hour. It was £10 until last year. We provide everything & supply her with lunch too.

Deut28 · 23/03/2023 23:22

£15ph in London. Recently went up from £12ph.

takeme · 23/03/2023 23:24

£13.50 and brings her own stuff. Affluent area of England

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 23/03/2023 23:28

£15 but brings all her own stuff including hoover and mop

Toddlerteaplease · 24/03/2023 02:15

Thanks, it used to be £12 but has gone up a lot in the last couple of years. £17 just seems an awful lot for what is an unskilled job. But I did forget about travel costs etc. it annoys me that she doesn't do the full time though.

I provide everything.

I would find someone else. It has to be worth paying for.

fuzzbearpenguin · 24/03/2023 02:20

I pay £15 per hour but I think a lot of cleaners work cash in hand, so as a nurse you may believe you earn more, but I expect you also get paid holiday, employer pension contributions, sick pay etc. most cleaners won't get these benefits..

LoveMyJackRussells · 24/03/2023 06:16

£15 an hour for 12 hours housekeeping. She works tor us and two other families, so does a full 36/40 hour week.

Fudgewomble · 24/03/2023 06:18

£15/hr London

thegirlyupnorth · 24/03/2023 06:27

Where are you, that is a lot. Could you say to her you'll pay £25 for 90 mins as you're aware she doesn't always need the full two hours?

whirlyhead · 24/03/2023 06:38

£17 an hour here for 5 hours a week. I supply all the products. As we work from home and the house is basically one big office she’s a business expense.

ThePoshUns · 24/03/2023 06:54

£15 ph for 2 hrs. Uses my cleaning supplies.
I've been paying this for years. She did charge £25 for 2 hrs but I always left £30. Back in the day when my money went further!
