Replying to WhatsApp photo 'messages'

It does my nut in when people send you a photo 'message' the likes of 'seasons greetings'/event related. Like a merry Xmas photo on Xmas day instead of a personalised message. I'd rather not receive a forwarded photo that's essentially messaging version of junk mail. Is it just me?

Do I need to reply? I feel like it's rude not to, but I don't want to reply with an equally cringey/impersonal photo back. Can I safely ignore knowing that person who sent it won't even realise until they next send me a personal message? Don't want to waste time and effort replying to someone who only broadcast sent me a photo

To me it shows that person thought of you enough to send it to you, broadcast or not, so I would reply, yes, with a personalised message if that's what you prefer

That is what the emoji response was invented for, surely?

It's maybe not something I would send and I don't get many but it certainly wouldn't bother me to receive it. I'd probably heart or thumbs up or something then go about my day never thinking about it again.

If you don't like GIFS then it's fine not to use them in your messages.
I considered using one as a reply but I won't 😉

I also use 👍

I have seen more people put these kind of photos in status now but received a few tonight, I just replied with the same but in words.

I find that heart eyes covers most bases. 😍

It depends. If I use a gif I try to find one especially relevant to the recipient and that often takes more time than writing a message.
