Feeling like I've wet myself but haven't?

This has been going on for a while, randomly and not necessarily every day.
I get a sudden feeling of warmth as if I've peed - it's around one side of my vulva and a bit down the inside of the corresponding thigh. When it happened at work yesterday I even went to the loo and checked as the sensation was so convincing. It's not a sudden gush of discharge either - there's literally no moisture there at all.
So as not to drip feed, I have fibromyalgia and do have some nerve symptoms that a cause can't be found for (numbness and tingling down the backs of my legs and sometimes a burning sensation on the soles of my feet), so it's been put down to the fibromyalgia.
This is a new thing and uninvestigated so far, but seems to be happening more frequently.
Why do I do? I don't want to be running to the GP every five minutes but this is a bit worrying.

Forgot to say - I am not a troll - if anyone is suspicious, please feel free to report. I'd rather not have people accusing me on this thread.

I'm sorry I have nothing useful to contribute, but when younger I used to get the exact same thing anytime I smoked weed. I always assumed it was some kind of paranoia thing, but it was a really vivid and convincing sensation and I'd always have to shuffle off to check.

I also now, albeit rarely, get the sensation of a wet leg or arm, as though my clothes are wet. When I check they are not. Not weed related, no idea what it is!

How old are you? Could it be hormonal - is it happening to a pattern, i.e at certain times during the month? Could it be peri menopause maybe? I have a strange 'wet myself' sensation sometimes and I swear it's hormonal.

I’m sure I read somewhere that we can’t actually feel wetness. What we’re feeling is either hot or cold. So it may be that it’s a warm sensation that feels like you’ve wet yourself because of the location.

bunhead1979 · 22/03/2023 21:14

I get this and it relates to MS for me, so I guess similar to fibro? I know what it feels like always being at the dr with a collection of seemingly small things but i think you should go and get it checked anyway.

vipersnest1 · 22/03/2023 21:39

@GoodVibesHere, I'm in my late (oh dear god) 50s so I don't think it's that.
@Candleabra, that could be what's causing it, but I want to know why?
@bunhead1979, I think I do need to contact my GP, but after being (finally) diagnosed with Fibromyalgia over a year ago, but knowing that I've had it for a long time makes me worry that there might be more going on IYSWIM? I don't generally have health anxiety (although I was always knew there was something more under the surface before I was diagnosed). I had to climb mountains mentally and physically to get myself back to work and was told to consider medical retirement while I was off with my fibro (over eight months).
I'm scared to be honest. I want to know, but don't in case it's something horrible - and I still feel guilty for the time I had off, and more recently when my DM died too.

I have fibromyalgia and get that sensation of there being liquid on my skin, it's a nerve thing for me.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 22/03/2023 21:48

I don't have fibro, but hypothyroidism and nerve damage from disc injuries and I often get the 'wet' feeling, particularly on my inner thighs and strangely my bumcheeks (as though i've sat in a puddle). It would be worth speaking to your GP, I wonder if it's a uti that's causing weird sensations? Better to get it checked and recorded.

You're right. Humans don't have receptors to detect wetness. I only found this out recently. It's why, if you take washing off the line in the evening and the washing is cold, it's often hard to tell if it's dry or not.

So a warm sensation on the skin could be misinterpreted.

Oblomov23 · 22/03/2023 22:01

I've had this a couple of times recently. I thought I'd wet myself, or had discharge. But I hadn't, there was nothing there. Very odd.

Rebel2 · 22/03/2023 23:18

Any back pain? That was my only symptom really of cauda equina

vipersnest1 · 22/03/2023 23:37

@Rebel2 I get lots of back pain. I'm waiting for medial branch blocks with a view to burning out the nerves. But,as I've said, this is all new.

I’m not sure if you’ve received any answers from doctors regarding your issue in the meantime, but I’m a bit concerned as well because my 4.5-year-old daughter has the same problem. She also feels wet, but her panties are always completely dry. She has already been examined by her pediatrician and a urologist, and neither found anything abnormal. They are beginning to suspect it might be a psychological issue.
My daughter hasn’t experienced any injuries or anything similar, so I’m truly unsure what could be causing this. She can sometimes be obsessive, for example, about washing her hands. However, I’m hesitant to consult a psychologist until I am certain there are no underlying physiological problems.
Has anyone found any new information or insights on this topic?
