NHS dentist question

My 15ds has had a brace fitted for past two years, after being referred to a specialist by our normal dentist. He’s just had it removed and we’ve been told he needs to go back to his normal dentist to have a filling sorted. Just rang our normal dentist who said as he’s not been seen for two years he’s been removed from their list, they are not taking any new nhs patients on, and he’ll have to find one elsewhere. Can this be right? I rang the only dentist in the area taking on new nhs patients and they’ve said the wait list is five months long, but that as DS is a child the original dentists cannot remove him from their list - it’s illegal. Can anyone confirm? Thanks

Lots of dentists have this info on their websites so it can’t be illegal. Why hasn’t he seen his usual dentist at all whilst seeing the orthodontist for braces? DC still had all the usual check ups when having braces, did you not get any reminders that check ups were due? Maybe you could query why he wasn’t call for a check up or given notice he would be removed?

How to keep your adult/child’s NHS dental registration at Dental Elements Unfortunately, you can no longer receive NHS treatment from Dental Elements if you lose your NHS registration. The NHS dental waiting lists are long; it may be some time before you can join another practice. So, we recommend that you protect your registered status.
